nearest place to make a duplicate of my key (besides ACE hardware)?

    umm.. whenever you make a duplicate key, you need the original one with you. And even then, a lot of keys for rental units say "Do not Duplicate" on the key.

    If you live in the dorms, you'll need to go to the residential services & there will be a change-of-lock fee. Whenever there is a lost key, they just change the lock on the door to be safe.
    If you live in an apartment, you'll need to go to the management office for the master key. They may also opt to change your lock.
    If you live in a house, chances are you'll have a roomate who will have a key & you'll need to borrow it to make a copy.

    Other than that, Ace Hardware & Walmart (I believe the one in Dixon can do it by the auto department) are your two best options
