Got in with low SAT?

Franchise1Franchise1 Registered User Posts: 234 Junior Member
Has that ever happened to anyone? and by low, i mean 1950.

UC GPA: 4.14
SAT Spanish: 720
SAT US History: 740

EC's: Eagle Scout, Varsity Volleyball, Video Production, 1000 Community Service Hours.

Man..that 1950 is stressing me out! I thought i would do better

so the only thing i can do to increase my chances is own that essay?

    franchise1:

your SAT score is only slightly below average (mid 2100), and remember, 50% of incoming freshmen are below the average! would focus on the essays, because your applicant profile is somewhat "average" and doesn't necessarily stand out, so perhaps the essay can help in this aspect.

but don't worry too much about SAT score. i know several people who got into UCLA with 1100-range SATs (on the old 1600 scale), and that's not necessarily with a good GPA either!

    good luck.

thanks a lot ..thats quite relieving! can you explain what you mean by "applicant profile" though? Like GPA, EC's, overall impression type deal?

Average is not 2100 at UCLA... Fall 2005's average was 2020 (SAT I + SAT II Writing).

    Source?
I didn't know they posted the 2005 UCLA scores with the new SAT I scoring system...

No, I am just saying if you add SAT I and SAT II writing averages you get that score. That's the closest I have gotten to an equivalent. I don't know where kfc is getting 2100 is the expected average. He could very easily be right, I just am curious as to where he got that information. Cause that is slightly discouraging.

Average SAT I for fall 2005 admits: 1346
Average SAT II writing for fall 2005 admits: 674

    1346 + 674 = 2020

I know there isn't a direct correlation between SAT II writing and the new SAT I writing, but it's the closest I can get.

I got this info from http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof05.htm

man..that means im still way below average with a 1950

i know UCLA looks a lot at numbers..will they reject me just because of that low SAT score? Cuz i know plenty of people with 2100-2200+ are applying. those applicants will make me look really bad...

Franchise1, your chances are not going to be so much worse because you didn't have the extra 70 points. Your GPA is higher than the average from 2005 freshman, (Yes, I know it says average GPA is 4.17, but those are the people admitted, not the people who attend) so your chances are still great.
  • xrb94xrb94 Registered User Posts: 41 Junior Member
Well they read your application based on who they want to admit not who is going to attend.
