for the orientation..

I was reading the thread about freshman orientation and I didn't want to hijack his thread so I'll just ask here, is it THAT important to go as early as possible? I'm wondering because I live in New York and it's gonna be really hard to get there that early. Would beginning of August be too late for the orientation?

going early is pretty important simply because class selection will be much better for people in the first few orientation sessions. By the time even the first orientation session signs up for classes, the rest of UCLA has already done so, and even some of the lower division 'freshmen classes' are beginning to fill up. Obviously if you can't make it early, you can't, but I would make every effort to go to one of the first three sessions.

Orientation doesnt occur until June right? It's not the same as those freshman visits during April?

hey fearfulliving, i wouldn't have mind if you were to have "hijacked" my thread. I just wanted to begin a thread about Freshman Orientation since there were no other threads talking about it.
i just wanted to add onto that last comment. Do we have to go to the freshman visits during april? because i live in sacramento and it would be a hassle for me to fly or even drive down to LA to go to the welcome day.

freshmen visits? haha no those certainly aren't required or necessary for any reason - I don't remember going to anything like that.

cool. yeah going visiting in April, when school is stil on isnt very appealing, unless u live close to the college.

visiting during april is not a requirement haha.

for orientation, it is only highly suggested that you attend the earliest orientation session possible to get your top picks of classes. yes, there will be classes available at the very last orientation, but that also means you are the last batch of kids choosing classes, and will basically get whatever is left. if you don't mind taking random classes for your General Education requirements, then you don't need to worry about getting random classes left over for you.

So you can apply to the Honors program without going to the thing on April? That's ridiculous that they'd schedule it in the middle of the week, even though it's just a tour.
