UC Admissions Decisions

I applied to the University of Cincinnati. They received my application on February 24th. My school sent my transcript, letters of reccomendation and secondary school report. I sent my test scores before all of that. Now on April 12th the University says (on the check my status website) that they don't have it yet, then it says that they have do have it but they haven't even gotten to it yet. It's April, students have to make their decisions. How incompetent is the admissions office? Is the rest of the university just as bad? I'm concerned that its taken so long. It's not like they're taking their time to make a decision, they haven't even touched my materials yet. Is anyone else having this problem?

have you called the admissions office by phone to talk to someone? i would also ask your high school to send everything in the usmail again just to make sure they receive everything. i am a transcript coordinator at a high school and i have had many students have me do the same thing for many colleges just to ensure the admissions office has everything. but make sure you call the admissions office and speak to someone. tell them the situation and ask if it is okay for your high school to email everything to the person you have spoken to or fax it with a note. good luck

I called the admissions office about 2-3 weeks ago and the person I had spoken to said that they had all of my materials, just that they hadn't gotten around to looking at any of it. The day before, I had spoken with my guidance counselor and she said that all of my materials had been sent. I'll call admissions again

By the way, my school sends most things electronically if schools accept it that way, I believe that's how it was sent.

My daughter had a similar problem with UC but earlier in the year. She submitted everything in October and so did her HS. One month later they still hadn't updated that they received her letters of recommendation. She called and they said they were having significant technical problems uploading information so asked her to re-submit the letters via email. She did and didn't receive a decision until mid-February. (This is the short version of the story.) Since her acceptance, there have been other administrative issues and for those reasons, UC is now off her list. It worried us also that if they mishandled the admissions process, what would the administrative problems be as a student? All the other schools she applied to had no "technical" problems whatsoever and were far more communicative. Good luck!

there have been many issues this year with naviance/family connection. this coming from the transcript coordinator at a high school.......i highly suggest calling admissions and talking to someone on the phone and explaining everything.

Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it. I'd like a decision from the University of Cincinnati, regardless, but I'm pretty sure its off my list too. These problems don't speak well for the university and how it handles things. I'll definitely call admissions on Monday and see what's going on exactly. I haven't had problems whatsoever with any of the other universities that I applied to, and the ones that accepted me. Especially because its already mid April, and students have to make decisions by May 1st, the University of Cincinnati has to get on top of this. If this is something with Naviance then I'm not alone.

The University of Cincinnati is the last school I have to hear from. And I applied to a lot of schools. I think I will be making a decision without them. I've already made my decision pretty much to to go to Temple in Philadelphia

Hi everyone, just to keep everyone updated on my status with the University of Cincinnati. Let me first say that I will not be attending UC, I'm going to Temple University in Philadelphia. About three weeks ago, I gave the admissions office another call because my online portal still said they didn't have my materials and hadn't reviewed my application. When I called, I was redirected a few times before being told that they had all of my materials, they just hadn't looked at them yet. After inquiring, I was told that the architecture program, to which I applied as my first choice major was full. However, I was told that my second choice major, political science had plenty of room. Obviously the May 1st deadline past, still nothing. Two days ago I received another letter stating that they "anticipate the review of my application soon" - the same exact text as the online portal. This morning I decided to log onto my Check My Status portal. It said thank you for applying etc. "Your application has been cancelled." Again, I will mention that I submitted my application in February, the university received it and all of my materials in February. They never gave me a decision. They never said anything about canceling my application either, and I did not request that my application be cancelled. Even if I wasn't going to attend UC, I at least would have appreciated a decision, yes, no, even the waitlist. Nope. Nothing. It's not hard to see that I'm not too happy about all of this. I must say, I'm happy I'm not going to UC because I can only imagine how poorly it is run given that the admissions office can't look at an application. For any Of you who are going to be going to UC, parents of UC students, alumni, I sincerely hope that your experience is better than mine

Unbelievable! I'm so disappointed in the way their systems, admission and/or adminstration works. I was truly hoping that my daughter would choose UC and obviously, you were leaning that way also. I really can't understand why they would cancel your application. Temple is a great choice! Good luck and go owls!

I was seriously considering UC until a few weeks ago, when I called and asked them if there was still room in the architecture program, that I applied to. Once they said it was full, I really only wanted to get a decision, I had no intention of going after that. But when I was looking into college I read so many great things about DAAP, the architecture program, and the redesigned campus. I hope your daughter made a choice that both of you are happy with

For me, at first I had to warm my parents up to Temple, which to put it nicely, isn't in the good part of the city. But after visiting and getting into the Temple spirit a bit, we all love it. But since this is a UC post, I'll get back to that. Like I said before, even if they had said no, or put me on the waitlist I would be happier. From what I understand, the admissions office didn't even look at my application, and cancelled it without my consent. Yes, it was past the May 1st deadline- but I didn't get a decision lol. But, its their loss. I'm more than delighted to go to Temple and to to a school that I found quite welcoming. I'm happy to be an Owl, but I wish all the best for the Bearcats.

She made an excellent choice for herself and we are all very happy about it. So, all's well that ends well. Since they just cancelled your application, did they send you a refund check for the application fee?
