Is the enclave a good apartment?

walrus96walrus96 Registered User Posts: 30 Junior Member
I am planning on moving into an apartment next fall. Out of the ones I have been to (canopy, oxford manor, gainesville place, campus lodge, 2nd ave centre, estates) my favorite is the enclave. Does anyone know what its like or have any opinions on it?

I've heard horrible things about Estates and 2nd, meh things about campus lodge, and good/decent things about Enclave and Oxford. Not really heard much about Gainesville Place or Canopy, but their reviews online aren't that good.

Thanks for the response! :) What I have found with online reviews though, is that they all seem to be very negative for pretty much every apartment. Probably because people will only go out of their way to make reviews if they are angry. That's why I wanted to get feedback on here.

What I have heard from friends and family is to use Apartment ratings, but use the city average as where you want to be and be skeptical of anything that deviates too far from it. Extreme low scores are usually bad, but overly good reviews can be caused by a complex inflating their page. I know Oxford Manor and Enclave are roughly near city average and I haven't heard anything truly horrible about them.

I subleased a room in the enclave during the summer of 2011. Overall I have a positive impression of it, but of course I was only there 3 months, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

From all the student apartments I've experienced I'd say that the enclave falls towards the nicer end of the spectrum. I believe it's new-ish construction (like within the last 10 years), and it shows by the nice condition of the apartments. It's pretty average in most ways... the standard things like clubhouse with pool and exercise room and basketball courts etc. Pretty average sized rooms and average bathroom, though I thought the kitchen was above average, probably due to its newness. One really nice aspect is that buses come into the apartment complex itself. There is a bus stop near the back of the complex, and it runs frequently, so it's easy to get to campus.

When I think of negatives here's what comes to mind:
    - I thought the chairs they have are pretty flimsy (my sublease was furnished)... I would not recommend leaning the chairs back unless you want the legs to break (though they may have new chairs now, who knows).
    - The noise separation between the main room and the bedrooms, and also between units, is not that good. The walls seem to be fairly thin. It never bothered me (and it's pretty standard for student apartments), but it's something to keep in mind. Also I had an upper story apartment and I could tell that sometimes just by jumping a little or dropping something I was making loud sounds for the people below me.
    - Didn't bother me at all, but there is no security guard station at the front of the complex, and the back side of the complex is joined with another apartment complex.
    - Sort of joking, but the buildings all look identical and the roads are a bit of a maze until you figure it out. Makes it hard for friends to find your apartment until they've been there a few times.

Overall I'd say it's a good choice if you've visited the place and like it.
