It's not far from the Quad. It was my daughter's first choice dorm and she just found out this weekend that she's in. We visited in the spring and it's got some great features.

Here are links to both Allen Hall and Unit One.

Allen Hall is a nice dorm (but no air-conditioning and small rooms -- like most dorms) with an impressive architecture that is an easy walk to the main quad. Though reserved for Unit One, it allows others if the the Unit One group does not fill the dorm. The main advantage of being Unit One is the same advantage that other special units have -- you have a number of classes that Unit One students have priority for registration (and some of those classes you can take right in the dorm -- people usually don't show up in their pajamas but it has happened). That priority status is an important advantage to have, particularly for freshman, and something you will likely realize how important it is when you go down for your orientation and register for classes and find out that many where you do not have priority are already filled.

Thanks. My son's first choice was Unit one too and he will be living there also.
When we went downstate to visit we did not tour Allen hall. We are going to orientation next week and of course tour it then. I appreciate your feedback!

    pclow,

I'm going to orientation on 6/8 with my daughter. Now that we know she'll be living there, I expect that we'll go the tour again.
