I'm apprehensive

So I was accepted to the Phillip Merril school of journalism out-of-state as a freshman for the fall. I know it is a top 10 journalism school in the nation, but I am very apprehensive about its reputation and connections in the industry. I mean everyone has heard of schools like Medill (northwestern) or Newhouse(syracuse), and I feel like when I tell people about the school, they really dont know much about it, and think its bad. My parents recently spoke to Len Berman and they told him I was going to phillip merril and his response was "I dont really know much about the program, but I do know that that's pretty hard to get in to right?" I know i'm just being paranoid, but could you guys reassure me? lol Thanks.

It is a very high ranked program; you have nothing to worry about. Just relax!!

Maybe it's because I'm not involved with journalism, but I've never heard of those two programs you mentioned.

You're right near D.C., there's plenty of connections. Check out the careers of the faculty Faculty | Philip Merrill College of Journalism . There's 7 Pulitzer Prize winners in the faculty. Check out Capital News Service: Capital News Service | Philip Merrill College of Journalism . Can Newhouse offer the chance to do actual reporting your senior year in our nation's capital?

Just because you've talked to some people who aren't familiar with it doesn't mean anything. It's a Top 10 Journalism school, like you said, and that says it all. We have a career fair every year where places like USA Today, NBC, Washington Post, NPR, CBS News, and the Associated Press send representatives. Trust me, they know who we are. And that's what matters.
