Odds of Getting in off Waitlist?

So I registered for the fall this morning, and wait-listed CCJS100H. I'm second on the waitlist, and I'd really like to get into the class. Taking the regular CCJS100 class really won't help me because I want the honors credit for my citation. I don't even need to take that class specifically, but I have a random slot for credits I need to fill with anything so I wanted to take something easy that I can also get honors credit for.

Do people off the waitlist (especially 2nd) usually get in? There's obviously a whole summer for schedules to change. I've heard of people e-mailing a professor, should I do this if it's say, mid-August and I'm still on it?

Finally, if spots open up will I just move into it or do I have to do something? It told me I don't need to "check in" again until August 31..but do I need to check every day to see if two spots open? Thanks for any help.

D2 has been on waitlists every semester (counting now, her 5th semester of registration) after she has registered (including her initial registration at orientation) and she has always been able to get in within the first week or 2 of the semester. One was a Spanish class that she was #5 initially on the wait list. If you don't get in before the semester starts, go to the first time the section meets and talk to the TA and/or prof and they will probably let you attend the honors section until a spot opens. You might register for one of the other sections (just to make sure you save your spot in the big lecture). It's the checking in every day (beginning August 31) that's the key....I'm sure that D has moved up in the waitlist queue before because someone simply forgot to check in every day....Doh! Especially since it's an honors section you are wanting, I suspect that you wouldn't have any problem getting an exception from the professor or dept to get in.

There's a lot of things going for you, I don't know off the top of my head what CCJS is, but if it's a 100 level class they're going to open slots for freshman over the summer and you'll slip in right away.
If it's a class that's in some way strictly limited (like a lab or something), you have less of a chance, but if it's not and you go to the class as soon as the semester start and talk to the professor each time, they might let you in.
Second on the list is pretty good. I'm currently ninth on one waitlist (and that's the highest of four sections)

And if it's before the check in date you'll automatically be put in, but if the class either puts you over the credit limit or conflicts with someone else, you have 48 hours to fix it before they bump you for number 3. The thing with this is they never tell you. I got into one completely by chance that I looked that day. (I had submitted an appeal to let me take extra credits so I had to call the school and get them to approve my credit number so it wouldn't bump me the next day)

Thank you both for the input! I am going to keep my schedule at 12 credits for now and wait to try and get off the wait-list.

Just as long as if you get the class it doesn't mean any other changes to your schedule. Gina is right--D has had to play games so that she could add the waitlisted class and then drop a different class--couldn't go below 12 hours at any point in the process, or as Gina points out, over the max # hours. You'll be fine, and probably will get it before the summer is over. Good luck.

Yep, the class wont interfere with anything on my current schedule and I'm keeping it at 12 credits for now so that it can be added to bring me to 15 and I won't be over the limit. Thanks!
