How often do y'all go to DC?

I really like the idea that the school is next to a big city , but how often do people really go into DC? Also, I assume people take the metro? How long is the duration of the trip? thanks!

I'd like to know this too. People are always saying how close UMCP is to D.C., and how it has so many opportunities and museums, but how often do you actually go? When do you find time to make the trip?

Honestly, how much people "take advantage" of being so close to DC is an individual thing. If you've never been and you're the adventurous type, you'll probably go more often - especially when the weather is nice. If you get an internship in DC, you'll go more often during the day/week. If you want the social scene or museums you'll go more often at night/weekends. Depends what you're looking for, and who you go with. Museums are all free, so that's a bonus. It's very easy to get there - maybe 10-15 minutes (?) (not including wait time) and depending on which stop you get off at. The National Zoo is a little longer to get to (outskirts) but worth doing also. Other cool road trips that are a little longer include Inner Harbor in Baltimore (nothing like the National Aquarium in Baltimore - they even have dolphin shows!) and Busch Gardens in Virginia! If you're not the adventurous type, there's plenty to do on campus, and you're more likely to get to DC just on occasion or with organized group trips.

I agree, it depends on the person. Personally I go about 3-4 times a semester, so I guess once a month. Always on a weekend.

Quite often since my parents both live in DC.

My roommates rarely go. I think Maryversity put it nicely... it depends on the people. There really needs to be some sort of Adventure Club at Maryland, most people I meet seem to just wanna stick around CP all the time.

I think part of it is that a lot of instate people are from the immediate DC area, so DC just isn't exciting to them (me, personally, haha). Honestly, the best part about DC I think is the internship opportunities for students, especially at government organizations.

Also maryversity got it wrong, not all museums are free (like the Newseum). But most are haha.
