down to the wire... U South Carolina IB vs UMD

Son is deciding (down the wire) between University of Maryland business program (College Park Scholars) and University of South Carolina Capstone, Instate, extra scholarship$$$ and "guaranteed" admission to the international business program (which I think is what he's interested in). He can't make his mind up. Maryland is in state and 20 mins from home but he thinks overall has a better reputation. USC looks fun and the Capstone and IB acceptance is nothing to sneeze at. Does anyone have any thoughts to help make this decision easier.. now that it's down to the wire....

Living 2 hrs from Columbia, (and not an objective person, since I've had 2 D's at UMD), I think there is no comparison. UMD has a much stronger program, much better opportunities for internships, and many more opportunities while on campus and in the area.

Maryland is a MUCH better school. It would be doing your son injustice if he picks South Carolina

Welcome to the Terp family. Much better than the alternative would have been. Plus, you're more likely to have shirts/signs that say "Proud to be a Terp" than the alternative (questionable wording) from SC.... :P

To be honest with you, UMD has a better program in every business area except international business. If you really enjoy international business, then you should go to USC, especially if you have a huge interest in learning and working in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan. It's really up to you what you want to do. I was going to apply to USC also, but I realized that the IBCE program was really just a extended exchange program (like a regular exchange but lengthier and has more of a curriculum, etc.). You go to the CUHK which is a great school in Hong Kong, but you really earn your degree still from USC (as stated on the website). At UMD you can also apply as a exchange student for BMGT at HKU and I think HKUST or CUHK (forgot which) both are all great schools with HKU/HKUST being the one of the best schools in Asia.

EDIT: ha, didn't see the 2nd thefalcon post, congrats on your son's decision.
