    I think you want Southwest.

I hear that Southwest is pushing all of the freshmen out this year or next year. So I believe all the freshmen will be in Central (there's like 3-4 freshmen only dorms there already) or some other part of the school.

There is always something going on but I'd say it isn't a crazy as it use to be when I first went. Dorm life is still fun even without the crazy partying. You also come to realize that you have to have a car if you want to make the party life efficient. Taking buses off-campus can be nuts, and the buses pretty much stop around 1-2am.

Southwest is not pushing all freshman out, freshman will still be allowed to live there next year!

What webtechads has been a rumored changed, but it is NOT set in stone yet. In fact, I think I read that Jean Kim (Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Campus Life) is highly advising AGAINST pulling all freshman out of Southwest.

I've actually seen the list of changes that Eddie Hull wants for next year (it was sent to all the RAs so naturally any upperclassman who wanted to see got their hands on it awhile back). Freshman are still going to be allowed to live in Southwest, just not in the towers.

Of course, who really knows with all the backlash the changes caused.

Well, I suppose I can understand reasoning for wanting to pull freshman out of Southwest... corrupting them young and all that. Having had a roommate this past semester who CLEARLY belonged in Southwest (and just transferred there, actually), I honestly have to say I think the only reason why she was so diligent with her schoolwork was because she wasn't surrounded by partying 24-7 (Mary Lyon Hall, aww yeah. Land of the geeks.). So likely if freshman WERE to be pulled from SW, it would probably be for their own educational benefit. But that's evidently irrelevant so there you have it.

I would say, IF you're planning on spending the majority of your time partying, you should try for Southwest (but keep in mind freshman get last priority so you'll probably be assigned somewhere the total opposite - believe me, I went through that ordeal this past semester myself, it's not what you'd call a picnic). The good news here is that you are able to switch your housing as long as you fight for it. But keep in mind that your academic performance is also crucial, especially within the first few years, and if you find that you can't keep up with schoolwork because you're too busying hitting up sororities, you should probably consider moving and/or choosing someplace a little less rowdy, like Central.

To answer your "is there something always going on" question, there's usually a few events happening here and there across campus. You should check out the Campus Pulse website, it has a "corkboard" full of upcoming events and a list of organizations you can join if you'd like. There's not much showing at the moment, though, since it's currently winter break.
