Honors College - what does it take / chance me?

I'm considering applying to UMass Honors College but I'm not sure what it actually takes / standards the school holds when it comes to admissions - if anyone could chance me, I'd really appreciate it:

Background: Asian-American female, MA suburbs, middle class, super generic, intended major in business or law

Academics:
GPA: 4.1 W 3.7 UW (can probably bring W to a 4.2 but not much higher)
SAT: haven't taken yet, projected 1500 or slightly under
APs: Chinese (5), APUSH, PoliSci, AB Calc, Lit, probably some of these: econ, stats, pysc, French
I take easy STEM classes at my school with a heavier focuses on liberal arts and social studies classes

Extracirriculars:
Debate: 2 years captain, won a few local and regional things, qualified to nationals (probably) 3x, opened my own community education debate class, founded middle school debate program, worked as a teaching assistant / intern at a Model UN and public speaking camp
Newspaper: politics columnist, publicity and finance / social media management, head of local news reporting team, did a bunch of big ambitious projects
Volunteering: NHS, a ton of community service / President's Gold Award things, peer tutored at my school for kids in lower level classes / with learning disabilities

Please let me know what you think about my chances of getting in (I'd be UMass '24, if that makes any difference) If you have other questions I would be more than happy to answer them, thanks so much

My kid is in honors at UMass Amherst, with much lower stats than yours, but kid was very highly qualified for a small but very highly ranked department. Kid says there are kids with much better credentials who didn't get honors, and many kids who don't seem brilliant who are in honors. Plus some flunked out of honors after first year (mostly party animals).

It seems that the bar is set differently for different majors, so that it's not all comp sci and business. So if you can tell them that you're applying for a quirky major, that might help. In any event, I think you would get in with your current stats. Kid says it's most definitely worth being there, for the nice new dorms, and the quieter campus. If you don't get in, you can transfer in, assuming you do well, which you surely would.

    What are “quirky” majors?
