Does applying ED here actually hurt you?

I was looking up acceptance rates and the ED acceptance rate was only 22% and the regular decision acceptance rate was around 38%. I don't remember the EA acceptance rate but I think it was around 55%. Can somebody explain to me while the ED acceptance rate is so low?

    Absolutely not.

The average quality of an ED applicant is clearly substantially less than the average quality of a RD applicant. This results in the acceptance rate differential.
