Would my daughter fit in better in Michigan? She is doing well (4.0 GPA) at a comparable school academically, but she does not like the social life. Also, are transfers generally able to integrate into life at UMich? She is a legacy at AEPhi; would that help?

Here is why she does not like where she is. Daughter is quintessential smart teenager. In high school she had some friends who were academic achievers but more friends who were not. She did tons of volunteer work. She spent her free time watching movies, going to the mall and hanging out. She is smart and career-oriented.

Although she is open to new people and new ideas, she says that where she is, she has trouble finding people who do anything else but have intellectual conversations; people sneer at popular culture -- going shopping, watching television, and wearing anything but sweat pants and no makeup is considered weird. Most of the people in her dorm have liberal arts majors. The people around her are nice, and her classes are terrific, but she said she feels she almost has to pretend to be a different to get along.

What do you think?
