Golden Gopher Application

Zasdil11Zasdil11 Registered User Posts: 21 New Member
Hi,

A few months ago, I received an invitation from UMinn to apply to the Golden Gopher Scholarship. Can anyone tell me how to apply for this application? Is the Golden Gopher Application the same with the normal application to UMinn, which is opening now? Finally, do the Golden Application winners only need to pay the instate tuition to attend UMinn?

Any information of this application will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

    Hi @Zasdil11 ,

My DS received the same, and like you, has not yet received it. Some quick answers:

    1) The U will send you the link. It's basically the same as the normal application. The U pre-fills in some of the fields (name and address, e.g.), but it's not a complicated application to begin with.

    2) Filling out the Golden Gopher Application does not guarantee any scholarships, but (just like the normal application), you are automatically considered for any you qualify for.

    3) In past years, the Golden Gopher Application meant you didn't have to pay the application fee. There has been some suggestion on these boards that this only applies for out-of-state applicants.

Noone on the boards (to my knowledge) has received their GG app yet. I sent an email to our admissions counselor two days ago for some further clarification (and when we might expect to receive it), but haven't heard back.

Essentially, the only difference seems to be not having to pay the application fee. I've not seen that the Golden Gopher applications are handled any differently (in terms of selection) than the normal app.

If/when I hear from our adcom, I'll follow up with details. Good luck!

Just heard back. Confirmed that in state applicants do not get a waiver with the Golden Gopher application. :-(

Expect to see this sent out "the first week of August". Good luck!

@freezycool you are OOS, right? Per the admin counselor I talked to, OOS students do not have to pay the application fee.

@CyclonesGrad oh no, I meant that I wasn't invited to apply with any special priority application- regardless, good luck :)

@freezycool your other post says you are from CA. Did you pay the application fee?

@CyclonesGrad I am! & Yup, although I kinda wish I'd gotten the GG app. My bank account is a little empty haha!
