Does anyone else think that these common-app questions are idiotic?

For those not applying, two of the supplement short-answer questions are "Most overrated superhero?" and "Most underrated superhero?"

No, I don't think they're idiotic. They're giving you a chance to be creative and to give reasons for your opinions.

I agree about most of them. But what percentage of teenagers actually have an opinion about superheroes?

If they are at all culturally aware, they'll know several superheroes. I don't think you need to actually have an opinion, just to be able to state and defend an interesting one. Haven't you seen the dark knight?

Tyler Hansbrough would be my superhero. It's said that Superman wears Tyler Hansbrough pajamas.

All, this is Stephen Farmer, the admissions director at UNC. Thanks for your interest in Carolina, and thanks for your comments about these fill-in-the-blank prompts.

We don't intend to be off-putting with these prompts, and we hope you won't overthink your responses. We're honestly just trying to give you a chance to have at least a little fun in the writing, and us a little fun in the reading.

If we've failed, I hope you'll forgive us. Regardless, thanks again and best wishes.

If you had some good analytical memory of superheroes when you were a kid...this is testing your intelligence. ;p
No, it isn't idiotic. After reading the "underrated" and "overrated" I understood exactly what the admissions ppl wanted to know of your personality. Can you decipher between someone who has a big rep but really comes out to be unskilled and someone who does everything possible but still can't live up to what he deserves? Pretty straightforward question but is worded in a more creative way.
