My daughter was surprised by her OOS acceptance last Friday. No pre-indications of acceptance from school, and as to timing, nothing other than the historic patterns learned on this site (last Friday of January and two days after the "not today or tomorrow" email).

@ramen01 My daughter lived in Granville her freshman year. It seems to be popular with those rushing sororities and fraternities as it is closer to the houses. Advantages are closer to Franklin and greek life, and a new Target right next door. Disadvantages would be more freshman live on south campus. I think ultimately 800 freshman live in Granville and north campus and about 3,200 live in south campus. Costs are about the same. Granville has its own cafeteria, which is not affiliated with the on campus cafeteria, so if you are on campus all day and don't feel like going back to Granville, you may pay extra for food, but I hear food is better at Granville (only meals I had were freshman orientation and both cafeterias were fine). Do some searching on the boards because the question has been asked before. My daughter enjoyed Granville, pledged a sorority and her sophomore year still lives in apartments on Franklin.

@ramen01 I believe there’s a link to do that on the Honors Carolina page.

My son also got into honors. He is more interested in knowing when they find out about those specialized programs they applied for though. Any idea?

I might have missed something but I do not believe I've seen anyone mention being awarded the Pogue, Colonel Robinson, Johnston, Old Well & Founders, College Fellows and/or MacDonald Community Service scholarships. Do you think all the merits have been awarded or they are still rolling out?

Daughter was accepted IS, Johnston county, ACT 31, GPA 4.0U/4.5W, Rank 2/~180; 2 APs but no exams, 1yr of dual enrollment; high level athlete but not recruited so no preferential there; previous homeschooler, which she wrote about, so that may have helped in the diversity aspect of admissions.

She has decided to attend another college so that's one waitlist spot open. Still, it was great to get that acceptance letter!

What 100% Need Met looks like out-of-state from Chapel Hill. Her financial aid award from Chapel Hill included a 5,500 UNC Loan, 3,500 Federal subsidized loan, 2,700 work study to meet 100% need with EFC of 13,900. If they max out the higher federal student loan amounts for later years in addition to the Chapel Hill Loan to meet 100% need when her sister also enters college, a four-year degree could potentially cost her $47,000 in student loans. With an intended major of creative writing and/or psychology, that level of debt makes no sense for a four-year degree. 100% need met with loans is not a great deal. Same old story. My daughter is very sad. She has some other options with better financial aid. Just not as good a school as Chapel Hill. Passing it on for others' information.

@jsw1310 same circumstance for me as well. It was disheartening to see. I knew I wouldn't get much as an OOS applicant and my parents salary but a 5,500 UNC loan just won't cut it. It definitely puts a damper on their image.

Does anyone know when UNC will inform accepted candidates about merit scholarships? I received notification of being accepted for Honors Carolina and another email with Financial Aid Award Notification (zero financial award). Is this "Financial Aid Award Notification" the final summary of merit and need-based scholarships or should I still expect any notification about merit scholarship? Thanks for any insights you may have on this.

@Fall2019App If it wasn’t on your aid notification you didn’t recieve any merit scholarships.

Should everyone have already received the aid notification email? My son says he hasn’t received it and I was wondering if he should call the school. Thanks!

I think we've figured out the financial aid notification. He had not set up his ONYEN account.

@fbhsmom there is a First Year Enrollment Checklist on the Carolina Portal (where the link to the accept any letter is). I believe it’s the second bullet once you follow the link.

If I activate my ONYEN/ConnectCarolina account to view my financial aid and other things, does it mean I'm accepting my offer of admission?

Hey all, when do merit scholarship notifications come out? If there is nothing in the financial aid package, does that mean I also didn't get a merit scholarship?
