Spring 2015 Transfer Thread

Hi guys, I know it's still a little early, but seeing as spring transfer applications are due October 1st, I thought I would make a thread. So is anyone else applying to transfer to ND this spring? I guess we can just do the typical stats sharing that is common in the transfer threads here on CC. I'll go first.

Current School: Emory University
Year: Sophomore
Applying to: College of Arts and Sciences
Major(s): Anthropology, Linguistics
Current GPA: 3.7
High School GPA: 3.9
Extracurricular Activities:
1. Secretary of the Student Association of Middle Eastern Studies at Emory (sophomore)
2. Writer for Emory's only student-run newspaper, the Emory Wheel (sophomore)
3. Writer for Generation Response, a student magazine focused on sustainability and environmental health (freshman and sophomore)
4. Volunteer for Project: Students Helping in Naturalization and English (SHINE), I tutor elementary level refugee students from Somalia, Iraq, and Myanmar in their English reading, writing, and speaking skills (freshman and sophomore)
5. Filipino Student Association, general body member, helped to raise $7,500 in relief aid for victims of Haiyan (freshman and sophomore)
6. Emory Environmental Alliance, active in invasive species removal projects and maintaining Emory's "sustainability" gardens (freshman and sophomore)
7. Emory Club Crew, my boat won a bronze medal in Chattanooga, TN during the Head of the Hooch regatta 2013 (freshman)
8. (During summer 2014) Worked as camp counselor for Congressional Schools of Virginia, was my first paid work experience
9. (During summer 2014) I was an unpaid intern at the Arlington Public Schools Languages Services Registration Center to administer exams in Spanish and French to second-language students needing English class placements
10. (During summer 2014) I undertook an independent study with the permission of the Jerome "Buddie" Ford Nature Center in Alexandria, VA to catalog the insect species found at the Dora Kelley Nature Park

I know the numbers aren't very impressive, so I hope that my essays will really show my passion for anthro and linguistics, and how ND caters to my specific interests in those fields. I applied to transfer this fall but I didn't make it, so let's hope I make it this spring. Cheers!

Hey, hows it going? I just sent in everything a couple days ago. I cant believe the wait to hear back is so long! Here are my current stats.
    Current university:Appalachian State University, sophomore
Applying to the College of Arts and Letters
    Major:Political Science
    Current GPA: 3.92
    High School GPA: 3.75
    Extra Curricular Activities:
    1. Army ROTC cadet- I am currently on scholarship with the Army (hope to continue at ND)
    2. Team Captain of the App State Equestrian Team
    3. Army Honor Society officer- I coordinate volunteer hours between army cadets and the local Habitat for Humanity branch and Hunger to Health coalition
    4. I also volunteer weekly at both of these non profit organizations (kinda goes without saying)
    5. Latin tutor within my current University
    6. Member of the swing dance club and team- not very helpful haha
    7. Manager at LawnSpecialist over the summer- organized outdoor lighting and irrigation contracts and made sure they were finished on time- have been working there since i was 14
    8. Volunteered at Play for Kay breast cancer fundraiser, Relay for life, Multiple on campus blood drives. Also Participated in all of the events after helping set up.
    9. Worked as a server over the summer also
    10. i was going to list Flag Football captain at AppState on the common app but decided against it.
Worked with a ND admissions counselor over the summer to ensure I had the first year of studies complete.

I am not really expecting to get in, but i knew i would be kicking myself later in life if i never even tried! I am trying not to expect much especially coming from a pretty unknown school, but i am surprised you didn't get in on Fall decision. Emory is a good school and a 3.7 is not bad at all, especially with your extracurricular stuff.

Just wondering, how many credits do ya'll have under your belts? I'm applying with 37, although I know that spring transfer applicants usually have more.

    I am applying with 45.

I have 65 at the moment (alot of AP's). However, it looks like only 47 will transfer.

Atleast that is what the admissions officer told me after looking through my transcript.

Were we supposed to turn in our AP scores? I didn't see anywhere in the commonapp that asked for it, but I have 11 classes worth of APs that I could transfer over...

@2ndChancePlease‌ You don't have to, but if you want things to transfer over then yes it's required.

Hey guys. I thought I would reawaken this thread. How many spots do you guys think ND has open for spring?
  • redy44redy44 Registered User Posts: 12 New Member
I would guess somewhere between 10-20

    @redy44‌ Yeah I thought the same. I bet there's around 100 or 150 applications.

I forget where I saw it, but there was an official percentage somewhere that ND accepts about 33% of transfer applicants. If I can find the link I'll add it.

    Has anyone heard back yet?
  • rdlp123rdlp123 Registered User Posts: 245 Junior Member
@redy44 Not exactly. I received a communication from admissions asking me for two more additional supporting letters. I hope that it's a good sign. I probably won't be able to send my most recent transcript until December 24 because my current school takes a while with grades. I hope I will hear back from ND before January 5.
