    How competitive do you guys think the applicant pool is for ED Penn given the fairly high acceptance rate?

    Look at the stats. The admit rate doesn't mean it's more or less competitive. The students are accepted at almost all schools in the ED/EA round at almost double the rate in the RD round. Schools want to commit to kids who want to commit to them. Stats in either round are comparable.
