Huge Problem... I Think?

Hey guys, I recently lost my student ID number (which isn't the big deal), but after reading this forum, I realized that the only available online PittStart sessions still available are the end of july ones and the august ones.
As a non-honors student, I was wondering if it is still possible to get a spot in the UHC Biology and Chemistry classes if I attend a late PittStart session. I'm worried that by the time I attend my PittStart session, all the spots in the classes will be full and they wouldn't make room for me since I'm a non-honors student.

Would appreciate any replies!
-Mike
P.S.
I can't go to Pittsburgh till end of June since I'm attending school outside of the U.S.

Spots are reserved for later PittStart sessions. However, the question you probably want to ask is whether the honors sections in bio and chem are worth it. My daughter took the honors chemistry last year and regretted it. She ended up switching her status to pass/no credit because she felt as though the honors course was designed for someone who had had AP chem, which she had not.

My son went to May 26-27 PittStart and he thinks there are about 10 spots left in honors chem and bio (but of which he signed up for). One other honors course had just two spots remaining. I don't know if this is typical or if they open up more spots as they go along.

If you're a freshman but not admitted as an honors student, you can't take any honors sections until spring semester at the earliest anyway.

    Thank you for the replies

I have taken AP biology and AP chemistry, and I'm majoring in biology so I would really like to be able to take honors biology (and perhaps chemistry)

is it true that you can't take honors classes your first semester as a freshman if you aren't a honors student? I was under the impression that you don't have to be a "honors" student to take a honors course, and that you can take the course as long as your counselor approves (at least that's what I've been told)

Here's how they explained it. If you're not admitted into UHC as a freshman, then you have to show a 3.25 GPA at Pitt to be eligible to take honors classes. There is one major exception. Some students do very well in one part of the SAT and poorly in the other so their overall (CR+M) SAT is not up to getting into UHC. Let's say you got a 750 in math and a 530 in critical reading and you did well in your AP exams in math/science. You can then go to UHC and they may let you take a math or science honors class but not, obviously, an English lit class. So that's one option for you and that's probably the one you heard about.

    Hello,

Contrary to popular belief, honors classes are available to any student with any GPA or SAT scores who is willing to put in the effort and extra work. But if you're interested then you're going to need some sort of permission to get into the class. This is something that you are going to want to talk with your advisor about during your PittStart. Again, you do NOT have to have a particular GPA to sign up.

Also, don't worry so much about getting into classes if you have a late PittStart. Spots are reserved in classes for each and every PittStart. You may not be able to get all of your first choices, but you will be able to walk away with a full schedule.

True. All you have to do is go up to the Honor's College (36th floor of Cathedral) and talk to someone about how you want to take XYZ Honor's Class. As long as you show academic interest (which I'd say you definitely do with your APs) they'll let you in.
