I'm not sure if things have changed in the past couple of years but my son chose not to live in Honors housing his freshman year. He lived in the Business LLC in Bruce Hall which is suite style--both 4 and 6 person suites are available with private bathroom/kitchen/livingroom. Someone told me that Bruce is now used for freshman housing (not LLC).

@curiousinpa, I am sorry, I forgot about Bruce Hall, and that it is suite-style housing.

My D did not have it as an option two years ago, because she wasn't a business major.

Hi! I was thinking about attending UPJ as a nursing major and then transferring to main into nursing my sophomore year also! I was wondering did that work out for you or are you not able to do that?

Hello, my D got her acceptance letter to the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences this week! When do you think students learn if they've been nominated for the Chancellor's Scholarship?

You can go back to past years' threads, but I think around the time that merit notifications come out.

My D was notified in her merit award letter received in December that she was invited to apply for Chancellor's. She was also invited to apply for Stamps a few weeks after her acceptance. (that was several years ago).

Both scholarships are very competitive, and only have a few finalists per year.

If you live in PA there is also the Nordenberg Leadership scholarship.

[email protected] . Another thought, my D is in Dietrich but selected to be considered for the physician assistant gap progra on her application. Do you think they would consider candidates from arts and Sciences for that? I think there is only 1 bachelor's degree in the school of rehab sciences. I didn't see it specified where a candidate had to do their undergraduate degree in a specific college to be considered.

    https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/guaranteed-admissions-programs/pa-gap/

Here is some info about the PA guarantee. It looks pretty competitive, only 5 selected per year. And a 3.75 GPA has to be maintained.

I am not sure if the prerequisites for PA school admission would be taken at Dietrich or School of Rehab Sciences.
So you might need to call and ask.

@Winky1 ---Chancellor's nominations come with the merit letter only. They notify you of the annual amount and if you are selected, they detail the Chancellor information. D was accepted in late September/early October and then the merit letter/Chancellor's nomination came in mid-November for her.

Does anyone know anything about the roommate selection process for incoming Freshman on the Pittsburgh camput? Do they do a questionnaire to try to match people if you don't have someone you'd like to request, and if so when does that come out? When are roommate names given out - is it at the same time that your housing assignment comes out (is that in summer?) On the other side of the coin, what about if you do want to live with a specific person you'd like to request, when do you submit that?

@cjam2022 - I just looked through our emails from last year. There are several ways to do roommate matching. There is a program called "RoomSynch" that Pitt uses - they will send you info on this. My son didn't use it, but if you choose to enroll, you create a profile and can search for roommates that match criteria that you choose. You can then reach out to a potential roommate and invite them to be your roommate or vice versa. Based on last year's email - the deadline for finding a roommate this way was June 1.

Many students find roommates on Facebook. And many just go random! My son went random - he created a profile based on a few questions and was randomly matched with his roommate. He and his roommate get along really well - it worked out for him.

As far as timing, I know he found out his dorm information while we were at PittStart - maybe around July 10. I think he also found out his roommate at that time.

Are the professors open or willing to take a student in their labratory as an intern?

Yes, it is very easy to get involved with research - depends on what you are interested in but my kids emailed researchers and usually got a few responses to interview with.

What is it like to come there as an incoming out of state freshman. It is a huge place. How do people go about settling in? What is the party scene like and where is it focused? How much to students to in Pittsburgh? Know anything about the Humanities?
