Guaranteed Medical School Admission

D interviewed for the guaranteed medical school admission that Pitt offers to select incoming freshmen in mid-March. We have still not heard anything, although they said they would send a letter even if you did not get picked. Has anyone else who interviewed gotten a letter (either way)?

D interviewed third week in March and has not heard. I don't even know how they are going to pick because they never asked her any real questions...it was so informal. Apparently we should hear around April 15....am not holding my breath

I was interviewed around the middle of March...have heard nothing... the interviewer asked me about 5 questions...all questions were incredibly informal... i think it is all based on that vitae you turned in... i feel very confident now considering that none of the 4 counselors at my school had ever heard of a curriculum vitae before... i put together what i could from researching it on the internet... i guess we'll all see... to everyone who interviewed: GOOD LUCK :)

OK, now we are in a quandry. D just got a phone call from UMiami that she's been accepted to a dual degree program in biomed engineering. We'd forgotten she even applied for that as it was supposed to have an interview and they never called her to interview. This is for grad school in engineering (biomed). Pitt had risen to #1 on the list due to scholarships and med school would seal the deal, but Miami has also offered scholarship money and now this (I almost recycled their stuff today!).

Would you guys go to Pitt even w/o the med school? D was thinking yes until this phone call. She has turned down money at Tulane, and we will probably have to turn down Rice and Chicago for not enough financial aid (regretably, but then Chicago doesn't have engineering and she really wants that). Any advice/opinions?

yea..i am going to go to Pitt regardless of whether i get accepted to early med school or not... it would be very nice though... but my large scholarship was a big deciding factor

My d. just got called for an interview for the chancellors with a few days to go before interviews close! It is rather a long trip for us (5-6 hours) but of course we would drop everything, and plan to go in the next couple of days if it looked promising. My query is, are there lesser financial awards to some of the interviewees who do not get the full ride chancellors of which there are only 10, I guess??We already got the 10,000 but I had read that there were additonal awards for those who do not get chancellors. Just wanted to confirm if others heard this. Please let us know.

Who interviews you? What is this about a c.v.? Don't recall reading about that unless it is the same c.v.of activities, honors, etc. sent with all college apps.

It seems very late to be asking for an interview up to the 21st of April. That would suggest that they will not be in a position to reach decisions until just a few days before May 1st when decisions everywhere need to be made. If anyone can provide insight on that time frame, that would be great. I guess we need to make travel plans tomorrow.

From what I undertand, since there is so little time left before May 1, the Honors College will be willing to work with you, perhaps even do the interview over the phone.
    Check with them.
Congratulations, and the very best of luck to your D. Obviously, you have one smart kid on your hands,
    Good luck.

Hey with that program, could you finish undergraduate in 2 years if you have a lot of college credits before matriculating, and then complete medical school and college in a total of 6?

I am having some trouble deciding between either

UT plan II honors in premed or Chancellor's Scholarship to UPitt. IF anyone could give advice with specific reasons it would be much appreciated.

Sorry, know nothing about UT. My d. just got chancellors and is very excited because it seems to offer so many opportunities to form a close relationship with a very few very bright students and equally close and intellectually rich relationships with the Honors Faculty, all of whom have been amazingly generous with their time and have already shown their interest in having a fabulous intellectual relationship with their students. When we visited, we met many honors students who say that they regularly meet with the Honors College administrators as if they were their peers. We spoke to a number of students who were admitted to the Ivies but chose Pitt for the financial package and do not regret it at all, saying it is a warm, welcoming, supportive place with the fabulous Pitt Arts program(free tickets to cultural events and dinner thrown in are offered all the time) and wonderful profs. We hear that, unlike the Ivies, everyone is kind and unpretentious. Pre med is strong there as well, but I do not know about UT as I said. Did you get guarenteed med. school admission at both schools? I would think getting that would be a deciding factor.

P.S. If you are one of only 10 or 12 chancellors it would seem that you would have all sorts of support and recommendations and special attention and that this woudl be a wonderful thing.
