Has Anyone Heard Back Yet About the Chancellor's Scholarship?

The letter they sent with my application said that they hoped to be interviewing candidates starting in early January. Wondering if anybody had heard back yet (either via email or a letter).

My D received an email today, saying that her application will be reviewed by two readers, and interviews will be conducted in "early January." Interview candidates will be contacted by "both email and snail mail." Anyone else get this email ???

We're still waiting too, but my D just sent in all her materials last week, so it's good to hear that someone got an e-mail already!! I found an (old) blog online where a student said he was interviewed by several people including Dean Stewart. One of the interesting questions he was asked was, basically, "Why do you think you deserve this free ride? What have you done to deserve it?" That is such a good question, I think. There are so many deserving kids out there, so why "me"? Something to ponder.

    LBP,
Yes, my D got that email a little over a month ago. She didn't tell me when she got it because it didn't really say much. I think it is just their way of letting us know that they received everything. The Chancellor's is conducted on a rolling basis also, so people could be hearing something anywhere between now and April. Here we go again. Start waiting.

Be prepared to wait. I called weekly for at least a month or more as it got closer to April, and they kept saying the material was on somebody's desk and in the process of being reviewed or waiting for review. Well, May 1 came and went, and I suspect that his lengthy application for the chancellors scholarship never did get read by anybody! In retrospect, I should have been more demanding to know the particulars of the process, the time line and the outcome of the (possible) review.

Ikf725, do they at least eventually send a letter letting the student know that he/she has not been chosen? Pitt plays its cards close-to-the-chest; it's so difficult to figure out how they do things....

That is NOT GOOD. If they wait that long, they're going to lose students to other schools. How anxiety-provoking for the students, too! I got the impression that they would be letting the students know right away. Maybe they'll do better this year. :(

Actually, I don't think we ever did get a letter to say he didn't get the scholarship. Hmm. After all of that effort, it would be the least they could do.

I think they use that scholarship to get kids they want who they suspect would go elsewhere. I don't think any local kids have much of a chance because lots of local kids go to Pitt anyway.

Yes, Ohio Mary, "anxiety-provoking" for students, definitely! Although I feel I had more anxiety than my D waiting on merit $.... I think most situations w/Pitt seem to become a waiting game. And, in all fairness, they should notify students who will not interview for the Chancellor's - as well as notify academically qualified students (i.e., Honors candidates) to whom they don't award merit $. I'm sure there are students out there who get stuck, thinking that they're going to get some merit aid - and get $0. I know I had to push my D to keep applying to other schools around Thanksgiving - because we hadn't heard anything definitive about $. She was accepted in October; she got an award letter in December (for which I am very thankful and relieved. There are many academically competitive students.) Good luck!

Can't get much better than that, cc77! Are you local, in state or oos?

Did you at least get a full tuition scholarship?
  • cc77cc77cccc77cc77cc Registered User Posts: 176 Junior Member
    full tuition.

I live about 30 mins from the college, which I think might have been a factor since they want to make diversify the college and take it to a national scope.

Not to sound arrogant, but I was extremely surprised: I put a lot of effort into the essays for that application. And recently, I was selected as a coke semifinalist (2,000 out of 100,000) so it goes to show you what a crapshoot this whole admission/financial aid process really is.

At least it's good to hear that they let you know back one way or the other.

I'm still waiting for some sort of reply.
