Does anyone know what is going on with University of Rochester swim team? Over the past two to three years, a number of their best swimmers have quit the team including record holders. There is a rumor that a number of swimmers are not returning this year - including over 50% of their freshman girls from last year. It truly is an average talent swim team at a D3 school with little opportunity to get to NCAAs. They generally finish 5th or below at UAAs. Some B cuts - but the times are not good enough for an invite. So you would think the atmosphere should be one of having fun and doing your best and remembering that academics comes first. Any insight - Rochester as a school is high on my swimmer's list - but the things I am hearing are raising red flags to us. My swimmer's times fit in with the Rochester times - just a good swimmer not a superstar. She wants to go to a team with a supportive coach, flexible practice times, great team chemistry, etc.... We don't live too far from the school - academically it is top notch but she wants to swim. We don't want her in a bad situation. Thanks in advance for any insights. I would especially love to hear from current or former team members.

My son would also like to look at swimming there but has not heard back from them. No response at all

Here is the link for athletics. If you scroll down the page there are 4 names under swimming and diving. Perhaps contacting one of them will help. I know nothing about swimming

I have a friend whose son swims for the team. Lots of problems with swimmer attrition and many on the team are very unhappy (including her son). Little team camaraderie with a coach that flies off the handle a lot. Coach must be getting lots of pressure since they are close to the bottom of UAA teams. Unfortunately, the kids who have quit over the last few years have been many of his top swimmers. Also, a huge number of last year's freshman class did not return. Suggest your swimmer check out Wash U, Emory and Case. Good luck!
