Decision: Accepted

Date applied: Late November
Date decision postmarked/received: Received today, 1/25 (LA area)
Accepted at which school/major at USC: International Relations

Stats:
• SAT Total: N/A
• ACT: 33 (10 writing)
• SAT Subject Tests: 670 (Math II), 670 (US History), 650 (Bio)
• GPA-UW/W: 4.0/4.18+
• Rank: 1/380
• AP/IB classes: 3 AP + 1 honors (11th), 5 AP (12th)
Subjective:
• Essays: Personal!
• Teacher Recs: I sent two and didn't read them. The teachers are kind and think highly of me!
• Counselor Rec: N/A
• EC highlights: I can't really be specific since these will give me away, but I have one extremely unique community service EC in addition to many other "standard" EC's (with mid-level leadership positions) that I held for several years (Girl Scouts, Key Club, sports, etc.)

Location/Person:
• State or Country: California
• School Type: Nonpresigious public HS - most kids are either on an AP track or are headed to community college. Most 4-year college-bound kids go to UCs and Cal States. Several others go to smaller privates, and a few go to prestigious privates each year.
• Ethnicity: Caucasian
• Gender: Female
Other Factors, hook?: No clue! I can only imagine!

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC...?: Being interviewed for Presidential scholarship! I am so excited! Congratulations to the others! :) I am so thankful for this opportunity!

Decision: Accepted

Date applied: last week of November
Date decision postmarked/received: TODAY! January 25
Accepted at which school/major at USC: Biomedical Engineering

Stats:
• SAT Total: 2340 M: 750, CR: 800, WR: 790
• ACT: 35
• SAT Subject Tests: Math II (800), Chemistry (800), Physics (780), Biology (760)
• GPA-UW/W: 3.90 unweighted
• Rank: n/a at my school
• AP/IB classes: Taken 6 AP classes at school so far, self studied 3 more APs, taking 4 AP classes this year
Subjective:
• Essays: unique and well written imo
• Teacher Recs: probably good; my teachers love me!
• Counselor Rec: probably generic, I'm not sure
• EC highlights: lots of volunteer work (hospital and city commission work), school newspaper, piano, orchestra, leadership positions in my ECs

Location/Person:
• State or Country: California (LA area)
• School Type: public
• Ethnicity: Asian
• Gender: Female
Other Factors, hook?: first generation college student, National Merit Semi-finalist

Decision: Accepted

Date applied: day of deadline
Date decision postmarked/received: Jan. 24th
Accepted at which school/major at USC: CAS: Biological Sciences

Stats:
• SAT Total: 2300 M: 800 CR: 750, WR: 750,
• ACT: 36 composite in December but didn't use for USC.
• SAT Subject Tests: Physics 770, Biology 800, Math 770, Chinese 800, USH 750
• GPA-UW/W: 3.98/4.62
• Rank: between 5-10/700
• AP/IB classes: Taken 7 APs (got 7 5's by luck ^^), 6-7 AP tests in senior year, since there's 2 for econ and 2 for physics.
Subjective:
• Essays: logical elaborations, not recycled essays. explained but didn't focus on me being an immigrant from China and not knowing English until 2003, but emphasized how I solve problems from a bi-cultural angle.
• Teacher Recs: Tried to be strategic in choosing :) Didn't read either, but I stood out in both classes. AP Biology Teacher & AP English/Debate Teacher-Coach. Bio teacher could talk about my academic side, but the Eng teacher could write on a much more complex level due to the 20 something rhetorical/argument essays from me throughout the year and how I handled my debate partner's emotional situations during certian tournaments.
• Counselor Rec:Getting a generic rec? Didn't cross my mind ^^
• EC highlights:3 instruments orchestra and marching band. JV tennis, not a sports superstar but the potential's there. A wide variety of interesting community service, like around 11 just for that. Society-oriented. I hated academic competitions but did a few in math.

Location/Person:
• State or Country: Los Angeles
• School Type: Public
• Ethnicity: Chinese
• Gender: Female
Other Factors, hook?: Really emphasized how passionate I am about environmentalism, sustainability, and being a vegetarian to reduce consumption myself.
(3 essays made a story. I just made sure major traits- being different, living by what I value, promoting my values- were consistently reinforced in each essay and activity).
Oh yea, they probably see a spot for me with the trojan band.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC...?: Presidential Scholarship finalist! Endless Congrats to everyone! SEE YOU AT EXPLORE USC WOOOOOOOO (this is like a ray of light at the end of the tunnel, it came in the mail just when I'm desperately doing required interviews for 3 other schools!)
