Here are instructions and a template you can use to help future generations of USC applicants!:

-Copy/paste all the text below from === to === into a new post (Do NOT include the ===)
-Delete the line that does not apply, i.e. Accepted or Rejected.
-Add your specifics on the X's.
-PREVIEW POST to see how it looks before you submit. Instead of clicking "Post Reply," choose "Go Advanced" so you can make adjustments before you post (believe me - I had to preview this seventeen times before I got it right!!!)

Stats:
• SAT Total: 2130 M: 740, CR: 670, WR: 720,

• Counselor Rec: I have a good relationship with my counselor, so probably good as well.

Decision: Accepted

Date applied: Thanksgiving-ish
Date decision postmarked/received: Postmarked 1/25; Received 1/26
Accepted at which school/major at USC: Dornsife; Physics

Stats:
• SAT Total: 2400 M: 800, CR: 800, WR: 800,
• SAT Subject Tests: 800 Chemistry, 800 Math Level 2, 780 Physics, 780 US History, 740 French
• GPA-UW/W: 4.0/4.59
• Rank: 1/630ish
• AP/IB classes: 4 AP classes each sophomore and junior year; 6 AP classes senior year. 13 AP tests (all 5's) through junior year. No IB at my school.
Subjective:
• Essays: Common App was on mock trial. "Why USC" was meh. My short answers weren't anything special (though I did say that the condom was the greatest invention of all time...hopefully that made some admissions officers laugh.)
• Teacher Recs: Chemistry teacher/mock trial coach & French teacher I've known since freshman year
• Counselor Rec: Should have been good
• EC highlights: Mock trial, top SoCal youth orchestra
Location/Person:
• State or Country: Southern California
• School Type: Large Public (close to 3000 students)
• Ethnicity: Asian-American (Taiwanese parents and ancestors)
• Gender: Male
Other Factors, hook?: My 2 anti-hooks: One is being Asian. The other is that both my parents went to UCLA for grad school.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC...?: I'm a Trustee Scholar Finalist, which is really exciting. USC isn't my top choice (I probably won't matriculate unless (1) USC gives me a FA package I can't refuse and/or (2) the rest of my decision go horribly, horribly wrong. Still, I'm excited to be a prospective Trojan (and meeting some of you at Explore USC)!

Decision: Accepted (Posting for my son with his permission as he does not have a cc account)

Date applied: 11/15
Date decision postmarked/received: checked online 1/27/12

Accepted at which school/major at USC: SCA: Film Production

Stats:
SAT Total: 2010 M: 650, CR: 650, WR: 710,
ACT: not taken
SAT Subject Tests: None
GPA-UW/W: 4.0/ 4.6
Rank: 1/358
AP classes: 6

Subjective:
Essays: worked hard on them- told they were interesting and different

Teacher Recs: Didn't see them, but told they were excellent

Counselor Rec: Didn't see, but she said it was one of her strongest

Outside Rec: From a producer of a film I worked on, it was amazingly good

EC highlights: made over 30 films, started my own production company, films shown at national and international film festivals where some won awards, guitar in several bands, on cross county and track teams

State or Country: Maryland

School Type: public, very competitive school, with many going to Ivies and top colleges

Ethnicity: Caucasian, Jewish

Gender: M

Other Factors, hook: maybe my passion for film was evident. I LOVE making films, and USC is probably the best place in the world to pursue this interest.

General comments: Thrilled to be a Trustee Scholarship candidate. I have been accepted with some merit money at other schools, but USC is far and away my dream school (and always has been!) and hopefully I will be fortunate enough to get the Trustee scholarship which will make attending USC not only my first choice, but the one that makes the most economic sense, too!
