The film, "Fruitvale", has won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. It also won the Audience Award. Ryan Coogler, a recent graduate from the Class of 2011, wrote and directed the prize winning film. The Grand Jury Prize is the top award at Sundance.

Featured in the film are eight other alumni from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Three other films from SCA alumni also won awards.
