Overall, I am super excited to hear back from USC. If I got in I would go there in a heartbeat. It’s really discouraging that we have to wait longer than freshman applicants. I applied last year as a sophomore and got SGR (which I thought was a great sign) and I knew my counselor very well only to get REJECTED IN JULY. I also appealed and got denied again. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm! I did a lot of work on what makes a great essay and worked on it for months. I’ve used the same essay for other schools I’ve been accepted to so far so good. I had a friend from UNLV get into USC and he said he got his acceptance on May 22 of last year, I just hope mine is sooner. I look forward to seeing everyone’s results as the deadline get closer!!!!

    Stay up to date please:)))))

Applied to Marshall for Business Administration

College Transferring From/Type: Pasadena City College
    Entering As: Junior
GPA: applied with a 3.35 and I recently updated them with my winter grades which should now show my current GPA as 3.45 (Upward trend)
Units Completed/Degree: 51? Maybe 55 but I got a D in a class so idk for sure. Finishing up my AA for transfer as well.
    Units in Progress: 15
GE Completed/Pre req: Finished English pre req and working on my math pre req this 2019 Spring semester. 7/8 GE completed. Working on the last one this semester as well.
    No TTP

Experiences (Extracurricular, job/work, volunteer, awards, etc.): Worked at my parents Mexican Seafood place, played sports in hs, Christian.
Essays: Wrote about how I didn’t take hs seriously and how I found a passion for business through my parent's restaurant and described how I would pursue that goal through finance and what I envision myself doing with what I get out of a 4 year. One of the supplemental essays was about how I wanted to learn Portuguese and how I would benefit from it. And the last one was how I pretty much saw myself at USC. I mention a professor and specific things that they offered on campus as well as being a part of the Trojan family.

Letters of Recommendation: 1 from my English professor
    Unique-OPTIONAL: Mexican-American, male
    Location: El Monte, CA
    Schools Applied To:
    Accepted to: UCR
    Rejected from: Pepperdine
    Waiting: USC, Chapman, Boston University,

This is my first time applying to 4 year unis since my GPA was low coming out of hs (2.17). And overall the process hasn’t been too bad; I feel confident because I'm working on trying to end up with a 3.5+ by the end of this semester. It’s still a little tight for me since I still have lousy study skills from hs, but I’m trying my best along being guided through God since I cannot do it all alone.

ACCEPTED - Applied and Computational Mathematics, B.S. - Dornsife
Decision Date: April 12, 2019 at 5pm PST

    STATS:

College Transferring From/Type: American University of Paris (TTP Location)
    Entering As: Sophomore
    GPA: 3.7
    Units Completed/Degree: 16
    Units in Progress: 16
GE Completed/How did USC evaluate your college coursework?: 1 Humanistic Inquiry, Quantitative Reasoning (completed through AP Calc AP exam), 2 Social Analysis, Traditional and Historical Foundations (completed through AP European History AP exam), Foreign Language requirement for major
Experiences (Extracurricular, job/work, volunteer, awards, etc.): Internship at start up, took college coursework during high school, AP exam awards, competitive club gymnastics
Letters of Recommendation: 1 letter of rec from professor
Unique-OPTIONAL (race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, military, disability, legacy/related to USC alumni, employee, etc., extraordinary situation, experience, talent, etc.): related to USC alumni
Finances-OPTIONAL (low income or high income? can you pay? etc.)
Location-OPTIONAL (where do you hail from/reside? State, country, etc.):
Other (anything else?): I had the Trojan Transfer Plan
    Schools Applied To: just USC

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Were you surprised by the results?
    2. What do you think was your biggest strength/what got you in?
    3. Did you have any help with the application?
    4. Are you going to attend? Why or why not?
    5. Is USC your first choice?
    6. Did you submit/did the materials (transcripts, etc.) arrive on, before, or the deadline?

    Comments:
I think I should add here that I was a Trojan Transfer Plan applicant and chose to spend my freshman year in one of USC's partner universities in Europe. The GPA requirement for the program is 3.3 and I don't think many people realize that it can be very hard to be aiming for good grades while also being submerged into the culture of an entirely new country. I was able to play my experience in Paris as a strength because I learned the language during my stay and really used the opportunity as a learning experience in its own. USC was my first choice school and I think it really showed when I chose to go American University of Paris, which is a hub for a lot of TTP students. I know a lot of TTP students in Paris scrape by and barely get the GPA requirement, so I think I stood out a bit by making sure my GPA was far above the requirement, which contributed to why I heard back early on. I immediately said I was attending as soon as I received admission! I also submitted transcripts and letter of rec way before the deadline.

    Accepted via Portal 4/12/19 - Marshall/Business Administration with a Pre-Law track for Fall 2019

    STATS:

College Transferring From/Type: Pasadena City College
    Entering As: Sophomore
    GPA: 4.0 (3.6 ish UW in HS, 4.3 W)
    33 ACT
Units Completed/Degree: 21 total, but 13 transferable (I can petition for 4 more though)
    Units in Progress: 17
GE Completed/How did USC evaluate your college coursework?:
Completed: 1 class for Category B, 1 class for Category C, waived my Math 118 equivalent with AP Calculus AB score, which also waived my Category F requirement, and my APUSH score waives my Category H requirement

In Progress: Category A, 2nd class for Category B, 2nd class for Category C (which also doubles as a Category G class)

Experiences (Extracurricular, job/work, volunteer, awards, etc.):
Joined a club on campus, did some volunteer work, I mentioned an award I received back in high school (Senator's recognition)

Common App Essays Description (subject/prompt & response):
The prompt is to describe why you want to transfer.
I briefly talked about why I chose CC, but then discussed how I needed to move on. Also discussed why I picked my major (through an experience I had in the summer) and what I aspired to do with it.

Supplemental Essays Description (subject/prompt & response):
What is something about yourself that is important to understanding you?: This one is kinda personal, but if you wanna know PM me

Why USC?: Talked about the programs that USC offered for Business Majors (such as study abroad), the clubs, and how the skills I'd be practicing at the ELC would help me with my potential career. I also discussed USC's double majors and minors that I'd be potentially interested in.

Short Answers (describe yourself, favorite food, etc.): Not gonna type it all out here

    Letters of Recommendation:
1 from my English teacher. Had him for the Fall and Winter. I did well in his class and we got along pretty well when we discussed stuff outside of schoolwork, he was happy to vouch for me. I think it also helped that he was a TTP student

Unique-OPTIONAL (race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, military, disability, legacy/related to USC alumni, employee, etc., extraordinary situation, experience, talent, etc.): Legacy - Father graduated from Marshall for grad school

Finances-OPTIONAL (low income or high income? can you pay? etc.): Not exactly sure, but grandparents will likely make it work

Location-OPTIONAL (where do you hail from/reside? State, country, etc.): Confidential

Schools Applied To: USC or bust

    QUESTIONS:
Will answer these in PMs if people are interested.

    Comments:

So glad I got accepted! If you get the Trojan Transfer Plan and USC is your dream school, then I recommend CC to save money and to get the classes you need to transfer. I found CC work easier than high school personally, and a lot of it is just learning how to manage your time correctly. Make friends with some of your teachers cause they may have to vouch for you in a letter of rec. Anyway last year I was unsure whether I wanted to go to a 4 year and transfer out, because I had wanted to study abroad, but family wouldn't allow it. Going to CC was just a last resort for me because I just wanted the most straightforward path to USC by getting the classes I need and whatnot. It sucks that I missed out on a true freshman experience, but I'm glad I'll be getting the rest of my college experience at USC. Even with TTP, and the grades, I was still anxious on whether or not I'd get accepted. For the essays I'd recommend starting them around November-December so that they're ready for submission. Also make sure to send transcripts as soon as grades are available. Along with that, email your counselor with updates about your grades, schedule changes, etc. It's in your best interest to keep them updated. Even if they may not reply, there is a chance they are still reading, but just don't have the time to come up with a thoughtful reply. It's just best to be on the same page as them. Also, if you have questions, look them up online before asking. They may get annoyed. I had to take a writing class during the winter that ended after the application deadline, and since it was a prerequisite, I sent that in as soon as it was available. Other than that, I'm glad I followed through with this plan. Nothing feels better than getting rewarded for your efforts. Best of all, it didn't cost $500K and $1 million in bail!

Accepted via portal on 4/12/19 through TTP, undecided (provost's office) for Fall 2019

    STATS:

College Transferring From: 4-year, Northeastern University
    Entering As: Sophomore
GPA: 3.917 (fall), 3.7ish in HS
Units Completed/Degree: 17 I think? I took 3 AP courses in HS that are also transferrable
    Units in Progress: 16
GE Completed/How did USC evaluate your college coursework?: I completed the writing requirement and foreign language requirement at Northeastern and the rest were electives. My APs fulfilled one humanistic inquiry and quantitative reasoning.

Experiences (Extracurricular, job/work, volunteer, awards, etc.): Did a semester school and was on yearbook in HS. Joined a club on campus and wrote about it in my Common App.

Common App Essays Description (subject/prompt & response): For why I wanted to transfer, I talked about how going to USC has always felt right to me / my gut is telling me that it's the right school. I also talked about how Northeastern didn't challenge me the way I wanted to. Lastly, I talked a lot about Annenberg and why its resources and qualities as a school would benefit me as a student. I name-dropped professors whose interests connected with mine and talked about how its requirements appealed me more to the program.

Supplemental Essays Description (subject/prompt & response): Something essential to understanding you: Talked about being Asian-American and how the conflict is essential to understanding me
Pursuing academic interests at USC: Talked about wanting to start a club at USC similar to the one I enjoy so much at Northeastern, can't reveal it because it's very niche / would be easy to find me but it's a unique club to say the least, connected it to my major as well
How an Annenberg major would help me in the 21st century: Wanting to help bring light to sexual assault survivors and their stories and wanting to work or intern at RAINN

Short Answers: Too much to type, message if you wanna know
Letters of Recommendation: One from my professor last semester and my college counselor from HS
Unique: Asian female, sister went to USC in 2015 but didn't donate
Finances: Did not apply for FAFSA
    Schools Applied To: Only USC

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Were you surprised by the results? Not super surprised because I had above the required GPA to get in through TTP, but still surprised they didn't ask for spring grades.
    2. What do you think was your biggest strength/what got you in? My GPA at a top 50? school and the TTP
    3. Did you have any help with the application? I wrote all my essays by myself, but used the counselor through TTP to ask for more information
    4. Are you going to attend? Why or why not? Honestly not sure yet, if I do it's for the opportunities that come with going to USC / thinking that I can study at Annenberg. If I don't, it's because I think co-ops are more valuable than any internships that USC would provide and that I like the culture in Northeastern more than that of USC.
    5. Is USC your first choice? Yes
    6. Did you submit/did the materials (transcripts, etc.) arrive on, before, or the deadline? HS transcript arrived before, college transcript arrived 2/14

Comments: I only applied to USC because I had the TTP or else I would not have considered even transferring schools- I had this decided before even attending Northeastern. I really wanted to get into Annenberg because of its top status as a communications school and not getting in may be why I don't attend USC. I thought that my essays weren't bad and I liked them a decent bit despite writing them in about two weeks. If anyone has any questions about this process or my stats/info, please let me know!

Supplemental Essays Description (subject/prompt & response): talked about music being an essential part of my life, being a singer
*pm if you want to look at essays!
Letters of Recommendation: one from a college professor whose class I really enjoyed
Unique-OPTIONAL (race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, military, disability, legacy/related to USC alumni, employee, etc., extraordinary situation, experience, talent, etc.): TTP, legacy

    Other (anything else?):
    Schools Applied To: only USC

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Were you surprised by the results?

I expected an SGR as I barely hit the minimum GPA for TTP, but I think my rigorous course load and essays made up for it, hence why I received an acceptance right away. However, I did get in as my second choice major.

    2. What do you think was your biggest strength/what got you in?

Definitely the essays. I'd say I'm a decently capable writer.

    3. Did you have any help with the application?

    No.

    4. Are you going to attend? Why or why not?

    Dependent on FA.

    5. Is USC your first choice?

Yes, it was the only uni I applied to this year.

    6. Did you submit/did the materials (transcripts, etc.) arrive on, before, or the deadline?

Yes, before, but I think I sent in a supplemental transcript after the deadline since I ended up changing some of my expected classes.

edit: not sure if everyone got this but in my letter it says my acceptance is conditional upon getting a 3.3 this semester

    Accepted - Marshall/ business administration
    No SGR
I did not apply for FA
    Non-TTP Freshman applicant

    STATS:

College Transferring From/Type: Penn State University which is an out of state public university
    Entering As: Sophmore
    GPA: 3.88 (from fall)
    High school GPA: 4.2+
    SAT: 1450
Units Completed/Degree: completed 17 and had 21 transfer credits to PSU, so those may also transfer to USC but I'm not sure
    Units in Progress: 15
GE Completed/How did USC evaluate your college coursework?: I think I had 6/8 GEs completed. Business calc was completed from AP credit, did not take lower division writing/English class.
Experiences (Extracurricular, job/work, volunteer, awards, etc.): I talked about National Honors Society in high school and different volunteering in high school including tutoring and for my church. As well as my job. And then my current status as a calc II tutor and my college club I was involved in.
Common App Essays Description (subject/prompt & response): I just said how my current school wasn't a good fit for me, and how I did not find it academically stimulating.
Supplemental Essays Description (subject/prompt & response): I think my essay about what major I wanted was my personal best. I just researched different opportunities I would have at Marshall including a specific class, program, and internship. Then I wrote an essay about how I hated slow walkers and would always pass them on the sidewalks and related it to business about how you have to be commanding. I'm not sure what my thought process was on this haha.
Short Answers (describe yourself, favorite food, etc.): These were kinda basic, but my personality shined through.
Letters of Recommendation: I did not have any LORs.
Unique-OPTIONAL (race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, military, disability, legacy/related to USC alumni, employee, etc., extraordinary situation, experience, talent, etc.): nothing insanely special
Location-OPTIONAL (where do you hail from/reside? State, country, etc.): I'm from out of state.
Schools Applied To: USC or bust
Other: I did not apply in high school cause I honestly was not aware that this school existed. I wish I did know because there was a possibility that I would have been accepted. Anyways, it all worked out in the end :)

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Were you surprised by the results?
I definitely was surprised by the results, especially because I am a freshman, and I got in without an SGR. (and because I did not have letters of recommendation) I was so used to checking the portal and having nothing that I was so shocked that there was a change.
    2. What do you think was your biggest strength/what got you in?
My biggest strength was I got Calc 1 for Marshall out of the way straight out of high school. I took the Calc AB test and received a 4, which constitutes credit for Calc 1 at USC. Additionally, I took calc 2 in my first semester which probably solidified my math ability. Also, I had a high GPA in a difficult school.
    3. Did you have any help with the application? Just my sister and a friend to read over the essays.
    4. Are you going to attend? Why or why not? Not sure yet, it's really expensive and far away from me
    5. Is USC your first choice? Yes
    6. Did you submit/did the materials (transcripts, etc.) arrive on, before, or the deadline? I submitted everything on time except for my high school transcript, which got lost in the mail and I had to send it again 2 times before they received it.

Comments: Maybe my essay really helped me because it was unique. And, I just want to say that I did not complete my lower division writing course, but before spring semester I contacted my counselor and she said that it was known that those coming from my university don't have the corresponding class so that it was okay I did not have that class.
I am so relieved that I got in, for the past month I've been having dreams about getting rejected, getting SGR and getting accepted. For everyone else, stick in there, your decision will come!
    Fight on!
