How does USC calculate GPA?

I've checked it out on their website, and they say that they use this weird a-g system. I'm still not clear how they calculate GPA from it. Is it just A=4, B=3, C=2, etc? I do not live in California, so I'm not sure how the a-g system would apply to me since the website had a link to another website which says the a-g system is for California high schools. Please help because I am very confused.
