I am applying for Public Relations in Moody College of Communications at UT

    SAT: 1180
    Class Rank: 16/429
    GPA: 4.87
Lots of extracurriculars including band (leadership role), jobs, clubs, community service and strong short answers, essays, and letters of recommendation

What are my chances of getting into my major? I applied in late August

@loganw2018 You have automatic acceptance into the school because of your rank. Your SAT is lower than the average SAT for UT Austin, but that GPA and lots of EC you have should make up for it.

I'm applying Undergrad Studies at UT

    ACT: 33
    GPA: 3.83 out of 4.0
    School does not rank

Good extracurriculars, extremely good recommendations. Also have lots of service. In many advanced classes.

What are my chances of admission? In state, from top ranked school in Dallas area. Please be honest!

    Hello!

I applied to UT 9/18, my current MyStatus says spplication in review. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 31 ACT, 1310 SAT, 2 year varsity cheerleader, VP of a student welfare organization, Chairman of Homecoming Comittee, NHS member and apart of the NHS Special Olympics Commitee, as well as a 3 year job experience. My biggest downfall is my rank, top 28%, however my essays were excellent..

Can anyone tell me what i should be expecting? acceptance or no.. and when i should hear back by?

Youve signed the lease before getting accepted? How fast does the best housing run out? @KWimbs

@Chipotlegurl28 I also signed a lease for Callaway because those run out fast. You still may be able to get a good place on the waitlist (which is very promising because lots of students who have a lease reserved but don't get into UT are replaced by accepted students on the waitlist).

When applying to housing, do you get an e-mail saying you can sign the lease or do I have to see it through MyStatus?

Are you referring to UT housing or off-campus dorms? I only know about the Callaway house by American Campus, which is essentially a freshman dorm but it's privately run and just off campus.

I applied to UT early Oct. My current status says complete. I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, 1440 in SAT and I applied for Engineering Honors for next fall. My extracurriculars include community service, participation in clubs, and computer club (leadership role). I am also a NHS member. I come from a really competitive school, and I recently moved to the US so my rank isn’t so great (at top 28% ish). I have heard that Engineering at UT is extremely competitive, so I don’t know if I’ll get in or not. What are my chances for acceptance?

Hi guys! My name is Dave and I'm currently a sophomore at UT with a major is Biochemistry (BSA). I remember how it was to apply to college (especially UT) so I will be lurking around this thread helping anyone that needs anything. I check this thread every few hours so if anyone here needs any admissions "chance-me" advice or any other help in general about anything UT related, feel free to leave a message on this thread, or to contact me personally by private messaging me on College Confidential.

P.S. Class of 2020 is the best :)

    Best,

@wickedwarrior777 I am applying for CNS Biology major. Do you mind sharing your stats? Also, do you know anyone in the CNS that was not an auto admit? If so, what were their stats? Thanks!

I got a question. When you are denied, are you immediately notified or are all students declined at the same day? For example, if I did priority and I get denied, will I find out as soon as I get denied or until February 1?

@ComplexX You are a Texas resident from what I can tell. Texas residents get admitted, PACE or CAP. You should not get denied unless you do not meet minimum college readiness standards. I haven't stalked your stats, but I assume you meet those.

The priority thing is a new this year. There has been a priority deadline for honors in the past but this is the first time I have seen it for all applicants. Since they say you will know by Feb 1, I take their word that you will find out by then if you are admitted, PACE or CAP by then. Question is- and the answer may be out there- when will CAP enrollment open. Will priority applicants get first crack at it? UTSA fills up in a few minutes so it makes a difference if you are interested in CAP.

OOS students can be denied and they usually all find out the same day- historically the third week of February. This year presumably will be one wave end of January for priority applicants and one end of February for non-priority. We won't know until it happens though.

Callaway will let you out of the lease if you show that you will not be going to school in Austin. They are a private dorm and the only one we looked at seriously so its the one i know the most about. We also looked in to SRD (also private) and i believe they had similar policies but I am not certain.

@ComplexX You’ll get a very lawyer like answer from me on this- it depends.

With PACE, you are in Austin the first year, with CAP you are not. But if you do not make the cut in PACE, you are an ACC student as I understand it. If you don’t make the cut in CAP, you are a student of UTA, UTSA, etc. I personally would rather be a UTA student than an ACC student if I had to choose. You can transfer out if both of course provided you don’t completely bomb out.

It seems like it would be very easy to get distracted at either school but more so in Austin making PACE harder. On the other hand, you meet friends freshman year in PACE and are not forced to start all over again as a sophomore.

ACC tuition is cheaper than UTA, UTSA, etc.

I have not looked at AP credit impact to PACE but CAP is very unfriendly to AP credit.

With both, you are only guaranteed acceptance into COLA so these are great programs for perspective COLA majors. A steeper hill for non-COLA majors.

I am not a fan of either program personally because there are so many other great schools that these kids can go to instead.

    @ComplexX

    My stats were 3.842 GPA
    I had 3 medical internships (2 domestic, 1 abroad) when I applied
I wrote two essays which I thought were pretty well written
I had a decent amount of volunteering (nothing too much compared to some other people though).
My resume was fairly well balanced with school participation and community service outside of school inicluding teaching sunday classes at my temple, etc.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Best,

    Dave
