@sorashiro According to my counselor from UT, all applicants go into the same pile. I assume that from them they separate them into they want in, reject, or further consideration.

@ComplexX Hm. If they do all of that by 1st wave november then does that just mean the want in/reject pile is super tiny while the further consideration pile is mainly what they say will be released 'by february' for priority deadlines?

@sorashiro Probably. I mean to be rejected this early you must have terrible stats or essays. Regardless, I think rejection letters are released at the end because they consider everyone holistically and give everyone a fair shot

@NuScholar Engineering and Business are notoriously selective at UT. noone with a high score like that is rejected in CNS or Liberal arts- Communications does not share numbers so not sure what goes on there. I think the problem with the 34-35 act auto kid who doesn't get engineering at UT is probably the essays. The programs are so selective that the they have their pick of kids with high scores so they look to the essays and things in their resume to find a well rounded class. Still anyone below the 95 percentile in tests are not getting in to engineering and business at UT. The average acceptance to mccombs is 31 on ACT( 95 percentile)- they posted it during the tour i had last april - I am sure the engineering avg acceptance is even higher. so yes they are holistic in ADDITION to being selective with scores and rank, also- no schools in new England that anyone cares about going to is becoming test optional.

@NuScholar also- UT stopped giving National Merit money around 10 years ago in order to be able to use money fo r attracting a more diverse student body.
they still have Many many NM scholars attending their university. the NM merit money is only two thousand dollars anyway.- some schools do give more but again- schools who are trying to up their numbers as far as the average test score of applications. UT has very very high average test scores without doing the NM money.

@Lupescupe i think you have a solid chance for COLA admission. also- if you do not get in, apply as a transfer student- i think you only need 30 hours for that and i saw on this forum last year that a student did that after being rejected and got in

Fyi for those watching your mailbox: If you are Auto Admit, that notice with your "Gone to Texas" banner arrives in a large white envelope with Texas 22 on the front.
You may also receive the new Texas Viewbook 2018-19 in a large burnt orange envelope. My DD's was dated Oct. 30th. It is very inspiring and very well done.
Both mailings are from the Office of Admissions. Good luck to all applicants!

If I sent in my application by way before priority deadline but I want to add a couple of recommendation letters right now, will it not be considered for the first round of major decisions and instead be labeled as a regular deadline?? I didn't add recommendation letters because they weren't accepted for the honors program I am interested in but now realize with the more holistic review and the competitiveness of BME my numbers might just not be enough (they are listed a few posts above, 1560 SAT and top 2%) for my major. Could someone please give me some guidance? Should I get recommendations or should I not? Thank you so much!! I'm worried!

I would assume we shouldn't expect major decisions if we haven't been accepted yet, correct?

I've applied for BHP in McCombs with a 34 ACT in a non-ranking school, just for context. My extracurricular are strong, and relate to my experience in starting and running a business.

I have not been admitted for rank, as per above. Just twiddling my thumbs and sitting in the dark until then lol.

I called the office of admission and also asked specifically if major decisions would be released this month. She actually said that they only see one upcoming in December, which would run contrary to previous years!
