Residential Colleges--binding?

Hello all,

I will be attending UVA this fall (first year), and I am about to submit the housing application. I don't like the idea of living in a single, so I put down Double, Triple, and IRC as my preferences (and I just finished the IRC application). If I get into the IRC, do I have to live there? I like the idea of it but I think I would prefer staying in a traditional dorm. I'm not saying I would immediately turn it down--I'm just considering all the possibilities. Thanks in advance!

As a 2nd year, my son turned down a spot in IRC, but I don't know about policies for 1st years. I assume you have the default option of the regular residence halls, but you can email the housing office with that question.
