msportmsport 500 replies25 threadsRegistered User Member
Hey all, I thought we could keep this thread to keep track of waitlist updates. I wish you all the best of luck and hope we can get into our respective programs.

I've been waitlisted to CAS from Northern VA CC as an incoming 3rd year. Let's keep all information pooled here!

    Thought I'd start with stats:

    Applied to CAS Econ:
-NVCC with 3.4 GPA, will be a 3.5 after I submit spring grades (my GPA has a huge upward trend, might be only reason such a low GPA was considered for the waitlist.)
-2 letters of rec, both from econ and business professors
    -great essay (imo)
-3 really good internships, and part time job in direct field of work related to major
-south east asian male, applied as incoming 3rd year
-only missing calc 2 and foreign language requirement

There's some more, but that's the general gist of it - I really hope that when I submit my spring grades & some updated accomplishments mentioned in the email that they will reconsider me. Good luck to you all, I know we all cannot get off the wait list, but those of us that truly want it will prosper.

I'll be skipping out on some really good college offers with hopes UVA will take me. If they don't, i'll prob take a year to finish the foreign language requirement and come in GAA.. it's my dream and top school.

-2 letters of rec, both from econ and accounting professors
-the best essay i ever wrote
    -great experience shows I'm passionate
    -White male
    -missing a few reqs
    -3.3 HS GPA

    Applied to CAS Econ
    -Instate NVCC student
    -2 letters of rec
    - Applying after 2 semesters with 4.0 CGPA w/30 credits
UVA apparently didn't get my final grades from my accelerated courses at my CC in time.
Finished with a 4.0 so hoping to get off the wait list since I'm in state NVCC as well

was looking over the wait list blog and Dean J mentions how they expect stellar grades to get off the wait list. I suggest to work hard and aim for a GPA between 3.7-4.0 and show an upward trend if you want a chance. In state also have an advantage on the wait list. Don't give up guys keep working hard. Getting off the wait list is very likely if you finish with amazing grades! Never give up

    I was waitlisted

    OOS
    junior transfer, EE
    3.82 GPA
2 letters of recommendation, one likely mentioning my performance on the ACS final for gen chem (99th percentile & highest score for the department), though I'm not positive, and admissions may not have been too impressed since I applied as EE, which isn't very related to chemistry at an undergraduate level.

    ______
I'm expecting a 3.5-4.0 this semester, but I dropped a class after not being able to get into the lab and deciding I'd rather take them concurrently so I only have 9 credits. Will have 2 As and maybe a B (in complex analysis)

Hey folks, just remember that I'm not Transfermer. I maintain the blog about the first-year process. I often refer to Transfermer when I'm answering transfer questions. She's the expert!

    Thanks @Dean J

Is the Waitlist FAQ on the website accurate for us transfers as well? Are we considered in the same pool as the 1st year waitlist?

Transfer and first-year are different processes. I don't think your letter linked to the first-year FAQs.

Applied to SEAS for Computer Science:

    Currently a first-year at VT
    In-state
Weighted HS GPA: 3.9 (big upward trend)
    SAT: 1480 (760 Math, 720 Reading)
First semester GPA: 3.4, had to withdraw a class too which certainly looked bad
Second semester GPA: 3.2-3.4, will depend on certain final exam scores
Didn't send a midyear report, school didn't generate them
    1 recommendation
    Decent essay
    Lots of AP credits
All SEAS requirements will be completed by the end of this semester

In a way I'm a bit surprised I wasn't rejected, but now I don't really know if my odds are good at all to get taken off the waitlist. My second semester GPA will be below average for UVA's average (although I'm applying from a relatively well-regarded school with a rigorous courseload). I also obtained an internship in the time between when I applied to now. I wonder if I can relay that information and if it helps me at all.

is this still an active thread? cause i'm down like a clown. we can wait (read:suffer) together until the first week of June. idk about y'all but I think theres something comforting about it. side note -- i'm happy at least we have a chance to prove to them how much we want this..

@Dean J I know you handle the first year process more so this might be up your alley. I saw on twitter that the #UVA22 incoming 1st year yield is higher than expected, and as such, the 1st year waitlist is expected to have little to no movement. Does this affect us on the transfer waitlist as well?

I really wouldn't be sad. If you applied to CAS, there's actually a very good chance you can get in if you're instate and send in awesome grades. They didn't reject you, so they're still considering and are looking forward to seeing your final grades.

Hey it's a good thing you're still around. I don't know what your grades are, but since you're applying to CAS, you have a edge since you're in state. If your grades were stellar this spring, then I'd say you have a very solid chance to make it off the waitlist. It sucks cause some of my friends didn't do so well and don't have a very good chance anymore

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the numbers for us shouldn't really have any fluctuation. It's historically been 20% off the waitlist overall for many years. I doubt we'll see a different number than 80-100 off the waitlist again this year.

@uvahopeful6014 What do you think of the competitiveness of the SEAS? As the Transfermer blog laid out, everyone is on a waitlist for the school they applied to, not the university at-large.

I don't think my grades are gonna be too strong (3.2 this semester) and although I have a pretty good blue chip in the form of an internship, I don't think my chances are too good.

@uvahopeful6014 thanks for the kind words! I have 55 completed credits so this is my complete last shot at UVA - which is why it's so stressful. Best of luck to you!

I'm brutally honest most of the time and I don't like to sugar coat the truth. I'm pretty sure you'll get in homie. You're a junior and even though you have a 3.5 it's still competitive for juniors. I'd say you have a good chance solely because you applied to CAS and the acceptance rate is quite high relative to how the waitlist is. If you got straight As or something close to that, I would definitely be hopeful and excited for the future!
