What is the University of Virginia like?

Hey guys,

I'm currently studying at UNSW Australia (double majoring in accounting and finance) and am thinking of going on an exchange to University of Virginia in July - December 2020, so I'll be around 21 years old. Now I have a few questions:

- What is campus life like?
- How far away is New York City from campus?
- What is the closest city to UCONN?
- How are uni parties or is it not really a party place?
- Is college football big at uni? and if so, how much are tickets?
- How are dorms? Are there a lot of people who live on campus?
- Are there a lot of locals (American people) who live on campus? (I'm asking because over here at UNSW most people who stay on campus are all international students and it's not compulsory to stay on campus. I know some American unis make it compulsory for uni students to live on campus).

Thanks!

    - What is campus life like?
Go to youtube and look for the account that's just called UVA. I don't think I can link directly there on this board. Good videos to start with:

    - How far away is New York City from campus? - What is the closest city to UCONN?
I grew up in the NYC suburbs. It's a 7-8 hour drive, depending on traffic. UVA is in Charlottesville, a small city. We are an hour from Richmond, the capital of the state of Virginia. We are two hours from Washington, DC.

    - How are uni parties or is it not really a party place?
There are all kinds of events happening every day of the week. If you want to find a party, you can. If you want to attend an event sponsored by a student organization, you can. The University sponsors events by funding all kinds of groups on Grounds.

    - Is college football big at uni? and if so, how much are tickets?
We have very successful sports teams, so going to all kinds of sporting events is popular here. UVA students pay for their tickets through a fee that is paid with their tuition. For football games, the students have their own gate because they don't go through the traditional scan of a paper ticket like the rest of us.

    - How are dorms? Are there a lot of people who live on campus?
All first-year students live on the campus (which was call Grounds). Plenty of students opt to continue living in University Housing, which offers special interest houses and apartments in addition to traditional dorms. There are pictures and floor plans of each option here: http://housing.virginia.edu/

    Yes.
