going here from out of state?

i go into UVA out of state, and i'm trying to decide whether or not i should go there. I was wondering if you thought it was worth it for the out of state tuition, what the transition is like to this southern school (im from the west coast), and just general thoughts about it. How do most out-of-staters feel about it? its obviously an awesome school and an awesome opportunity, but im wondering if adjusting is going to be too difficult, and if its worth it for the high out of state tuition. i visited for days on the lawn and thought it was pretty awesome.

the other school im considering is a public school in my state that i love as well, and is a good school but ranked somewhat significantly lower than UVA. however, its much much cheaper, which is a big plus.

also, how southern is the student population? when i visited, it definitely seemed different than my home, but i wasnt as culture shocked as i expected. the kids seemed pretty similar to what im used to, but is this a skewed view? is it all super southern/preppy? like, how would a west-coaster fit in???

any advice would be helpful!!!! thanks in advance!!!

Your increadibly lucky to be given the chance to get into UVA OOS (I would give an arm and leg for this). However, you really have to decide if you like the southern atmosphere. I live in NY and love it however I've spoken to people who said they feel out of place. Also if your planning on going into buisness undoubtably pay the difference in tuition. If your going into another major and both schools have good programs chose the school you like better. Just remember, not everyone gets into UVA OOS so use your choice wisely.

I'm from Philly and I love it. But I had the luxury of being able to afford the tuition. Many private schools in Philly are more expensive than UVA OOS. But when you factor in your dorm and meal plan and stuff, it is almost $40k. So if that is sticker shock then it is not worth it. But if the tuition is not a problem then it is the best investment of my life, my memories here are priceless and my friends and I am staying here after I graduate so I am glad I got to come here. How do you even put a price on that, imho. But at the same time you will have a great experience anywhere so is it worth it to pay that much more? I don't know, that is a question you have to answer. For me, with so many of my friends paying upwards of $50k in tuition alone, it didn't seem like that bad of a deal. Even the cheap state schools are $20k. :\ College is expensive.
