Regarding Scholarship Money

edited October 2013 in University of Washington
I'm qualified for a portion of UW financial aid and also got a few scholarships to pay for my tuition plus other fees. Essentially UW has given me my financial aid for the quarter but has not distributed my scholarship money. Does anyone know how the scholarship money works? And how the scholarship money be reimbursed to me if not all of it are used?

Did you report the scholarship money to the financial aid office? It might reduce your UW aid. Scholarships have different terms BTW. Some of them would pay only for related charges and some of them can be distributed as cash.

I reported it and it was listed as a "resource". Not sure what that means or how to access that money

I guess it's better to address the question to the financial aid office. My guess is that the scholarships you received aren't allowed to be distributed as cash. So it's possible they were left over after applied all the aid you had. If you go here: https://sdb.admin.washington.edu/students/uwnetid/tuition.asp it will tell you exactly what kind of aid was applied to pay for your tuition and if the money hasn't been disbursed to you in the form of check -- why.
It's possible that they will apply the scholarship money next quarter to tuition & fees first and will deposit the leftover UW aid to your bank account (unless the UW aid is in the form of a tuition exception/university grant, I believe they aren't allowed to be disbursed as cash).

thanks for the quick reply seatac! i think i will wait for next quarter to see what happens because I just reported the scholarship a couple of days ago. Primarily, it will help me with books, board and transportation. It is listed under resources so hopefully by next quarter I will be able to access it unless UW decides otherwise. lol

Oh, in this case I wouldn't worry now. Your donor or whoever is in charge of disbursing this scholarship would have to send it to your account. This doesn't have to do much with the financial aid office :-)
