Wow UW is sure getting some qualified applicants this fall, by the looks of this (albeit brief and totally unrepresentative) list we have here.

Can I ask a question? What is so appealing about UW for OOS students? I mean, some of my reasons for wanting to go have to do with being in-state. I would really be interested in OOS points of view.

whirly: that's a great question, one that, as a CA resident, I get asked all the time. UW, academically, is one of the best in the country. It is one of the greatest research schools in the nation, and is among the top 5 in federal research $ granted to the university. So, for a sci. major, it's awesome. It has established professors in every field, a beautiful campus, all the caffeine one could want, a huge athletic tradition, and the list goes on. That's why I'm considering it anyway.

how much would you say my chances increase because of my In State status? is it a big deal.. i mean i hope it is..... and if it matters half of the graduating class at my high school (150/300) went to UW last year and 40% the year before lol.

Haha @ vc08. I think you have a point. Maybe I just get skewed about how cool UW is compared to the whole world because I have grown up with "UW this, UW that" my whole life. But it is a great place. I'm excited to apply.

They have in-state, OOS quotas, I believe they accept somewhere around 30% OOS and 65% in-state, but those are just estimates based on frosh class profiles.

Do you mean that 30% of students there are OOS. Because it isnt that there acceptance rates are 30% oos, right?
Cause I always get the impression that it is a not so difficult school to get into for OOS top publics.

Big: It is definitely more selective OOS because of the IS-OOS quotas. Compared to Cal, Michigan, UCLA, and Virginia, getting in OOS is easier. But the admissions requirements OOS at UW are definitely tougher than for IS students.
