How to Know You're In

Okay, so I was recently admitted, so I decided to convey everything I know about the process.

First of all, how early you apply, unless you applied for honors, does not matter in factoring the amount of time it takes for them to make a decision (I believe). Some applied incredibly early, and some applied on the deadline. Unless you had amazing stats, ie: 2100 SAT, 3.9 GPA, etc., don't count on it being quick. I myself had the following stats: GPA: 3.7, SAT: 1840/2400; 1330/1600; OOS applicant; I applied on Jan. 14 and officially got my acceptance letter on Feb. 17.

So after you apply, your status will start changing, something along the lines of "we still require additional information"> "we have received all information necessary to review your application"> "we have reviewed your application and will notify you by postal mail".

Until it reaches the "we have reviewed your application" stage, it just simply means they have not looked over your application AT ALL yet. So the next steps don't apply to you. Why they haven't looked at your applications or what order they look over applications I do not know.

So once you have reached the reviewed stage, you can go to your student's tab on the MyUW website, check on the right side for an unofficial transcript link, and check to see if anything loads. If it shows your information, it most likely means you were accepted.

The next stage comes approximately ~2-3 days later (or at least it did for me). You can go to this link https://sdb.admin.washington.edu/sisAdmissions/enroll/uwnetid/enroll.aspx and it will load an accepted page. If it says something like, "Error", it DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN ANYTHING. They usually load this page once they think you have received your acceptance letter, so it might take a while. Most of the time it should load before you receive your letter.

Also, if your unofficial transcript doesn't load after your status changes to "reviewed", it doesn't necessarily mean you've been denied. It most likely means they are still pending your application, or setting it aside to compare to other applicants later. And additionally, don't call the admissions office to ask why your application is taking so long to be reviewed, they have a lot of applicants each year, so don't bother them unless your status has been set at "missing required material" for several weeks as it is not instant.

Hope this clears things up.

I didn't apply for honors, and I have no idea why I was accepted so early. Maybe they really liked my essay parts? We'll never know =/.

yaaaaaa i've got 3.77, 1860/2400, 1280/1600 (or 1290) and STILL am in the "we have recieved all materials..." state. Its kinda getting agravating because this is the ONLY school I want to go to.

Do you guys think its normal to have to wait this long? I applied on Nov. 30th. Didn't do Honors.

cman...so sorry it is taking so long for you! I have a couple of friends that I know will get admitted but are in the same boat with you. I can't imagine you wont get in. Can't remember....were your EC's pretty good? Seems like UW is looking at those more so than most state schools. Your stats above look good. Looks like they just haven't gotten you your file yet.

Cman: I know exactly how you feel. My son is in the same boat. He had a 3.77 at the time of application and a 35 ACT (2180 SAT, 2220 super scoroed). He has great extracurriculars and his course load is almost all honors and AP. Yet, he still has not heard. His essays were probably not that great (he's more a math science type), but with his stats, they should have been good enough. He applied at the end of December, but his file still does not show as reviewed. It is very frustrating. He now has a 3.8 after getting straight As last semseter and I'm trying to convince him to send them in and see if that triggers something. I just can't figure out why he hasn't heard yet.

He is hoping to be a direct admit to the CS program. Does anyone know if that decision comes later or if you find out at the time of admission and maybe that's what holding things up?

WA mom: I also got straight A's first semester senior year, resulting in exactly a 3.8, but I couldn't think of a way to let the UW know about this (I have 3 AP's so its not like they're senior slacker classes)... did you guys figure out a way to let the school know? If so, it'd be a GREAT help if you let me know how!

    Thanks!

nbg: I think my EC's are decent enough; 10 years 4-H, 4 years baseball, i've been drumming for 10 years (music=big, played in a gigging band) and i put down lots of community service as a sound engineer for local shows for local bands... good?

EDIT: whats even more aggrevating is that my HS is routinely number 1 or 2 in WA, something like 48 kids actually attended UW last year, so they tend to like my peers...

I can't imagine either one of you won't get in. Not sure about the CS program though...heard that's hard to enter in as a freshman.

cman...if your stats are similar to admits from your hs, this is a really good sign you would be admitted.

I asked my gc about sending my quarter grades to UW. She said they wouldn't even look at them...but could it hurt? Doubt it.

cman:congrats on a great job senior year. I know how hard it is to keep things up when senioritis is setting in all around. I haven't figured it out yet, but I will le tyou know if I can figure out a way to send them that they might actually look at it. I agree with nbg that I"m sure you get in. Your EC's look great. It's just hard to wait.

It's good to see that my son is in good company and is not the only one. Makes me feel better. Maybe you guys have all just been assigned to the slow reviewer!

I know a direct admit to CS is a long shot, but he is hoping that as he has taken AP Computer Science and lots of advance math past AP Calc BC (he's currently taking Differential Equations) that he may have a shot as he has met a lot of the freshman requirements already.

hmmmm...I'm wondering if those of you with these high stats that haven't been reviewed yet are all CS majors? That's the case with my friend who hasn't heard yet too. Maybe the CS school has to make their decisions before UW can admit you? Just a guess...not much else makes any sense!

Yesterday, my status changed to "We have reviewed your application. We will inform you by postal mail when a decision is made." and today I'm able to open the unofficial transcript. My question is : Can I be certain that I have been admitted if I can open the https://sdb.admin.washington.edu/sisAdmissions/enroll/uwnetid/enroll.aspx ?

I hope you're right. Maybe there are just trying to make their direct admit decisions and tell us all at once. I was assuming we'd find out first aabout admission and then if it's a direct admit.

Does anyone know if economics is in the CS (college of sciences...right?) cuz thats what I put as my major... I think most people at my school probably put business, but I know nobody got direct admission to the business school (90% sure).

When I used the letters "CS" in my previous post somewhere on this board, I meant the school of Computer Science and Engineering- which is really CSE. The Arts/Science school is College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). If you go to the UW website and check out the different colleges, you will find the Econ major whether CAS or the Business school.

ahhh ok thanks. I know econ is not in business school, so it must be in CAS.

    Thanks.

Yay! My son finally got his letter today. Interestingly, his status didn't change to reviewed until today, so he never got to try the load transcript trick.

Can you have him check it to confirm the theory? Seems like someone's took a couple of days to load even though they had received their acceptance letter.
This would give hope to those who can't get it to load right away. Congrats again!

My status said reviewed... and my details are in the unofficial transcripts. Sure hope that trick works >___<

don't wanna get my hopes up till the email comes in! I'm an international so the letter would take a couple of weeks to arrive..

Also Im kind of worried because I applied as a CS major freshman..And have little programming experience. Sure hope it wont be too big of a factor.
