GUEST STUDENT OF THE WEEK: ehales3 is a rising sophomore at Cornell University. As a high school student, she always thought that she wanted to study in a more urban environment, but has grown to love Ithaca and all that it offers. ASK HER ANYTHING!
As we work to adjust to the current reality, make sure to check out these dedicated COVID-19 resources: our directory of virtual campus tours, our directory of extended deadlines, as well as the list of schools going test optional this fall.

-Rising Asian senior from Washington (interested in medicine)
-4A High school in a suburban area

GPA: 3.78 unweighted
Class rank: among top 15 or 20%

SAT: 1st-1510; 2nd-1430
**Scores will surely improve to near 2200s (min 1900s)
SAT II: US History 530

APs: 5 or 6 total depending on my senior schedule

Volunteer work:
-Elementary School (max 50hr)- Organize materials for next lesson/work with children
-Piano accompaniment for Sunday services (max 10hr)- Play hymnals during Sunday services. Regardless of religious affiliation, this counts for volunteer work right??
-Local art museum- just got accepted so I'll complete a minimum of 40 hours
-I've done other volunteer work but, they were just one time things

ECs: National Honor Society- all four years
Key Club- all four years
World Affairs Club- 11, 12
FBLA- 11, 12
Letterman Varsity Tennis-10, 11, 12 (Most Improved Award)
Our school won state title due to one individual. Should I mention this? No one else had any contribution to it except that one person.
Church Youth Group- all four years (served as Secretary, VP, President)

Please answer with harsh honesty. Thanks

Everything looks very good (you seem to be involved in a lot of things) except for the SAT scores. Definitely try and get that up, or you'll be screwed over.

Btw, Varsity Tennis at a 4A school 3 years in a row?! Wow. I'm pretty sure I would be killed if I tried to play you...

Haha from a 1430 SAT to the near 2200s? Doubtful. Most people either go up like 20 points or so or go down. If you can somehow pull that off, however, you are guaranteed to be in. All the rest of your stats look great, id say even if you get your SAT scores to even only like the 1700s you will be in. You've got a good chance.
