Where Should I House?

TrAdam5TrAdam5 Registered User Posts: 8 New Member
Hi all,
I am from Maryland and just got into UW. I am planning on visiting the college in early April because I haven't seen it yet in person. However, I guess I need to send in my housing information ASAP with a $50 deposit (which I think is a kind of weird policy, but oh well). I don't know where I should room, so I need some help. Can anybody here tell me about the different dorms, about what they're like, about how social they are, whether they're freshman only or mixed, etc.,etc. Thanks and I really would appreciate any feedback cuz I am really clueless as to where to dorm. Peace.

Im from Maryland too and will be attending UW next fall. I am going to be staying in the Towers, one of the private residence halls. I visited a few weeks ago and loved it! The dorms and facilities were extremely nice and the campus was great too. I know many people from the Mid-West have bad things to say about the private residence halls because they attract mostly people from the east coast but I really liked it. Thats just my opinion. Congrats on getting accepted!

I'm from New York and I'm staying in Statesider, a private dorm. I visited my friend there and I loved it, a quintessential freshman dorm as far as I'm concerned. Coming from the east coast, I'm expecting to see a lot of other east coasters, west coasters, and kids from Chicago. Everyone was really friendly and cool when I visited. I'm really excited, should be a great year.

I live in Madison. I have a few friends who go the UW. One of them lives in Kronsage (sp?) and its good! nice size rooms. its one of the lakeshore dorms. Liz Waters is sometimes known as "the virgin vault". has stereotypes, but has the biggest and nicest rooms and the best food facilities, and other facilities. From what i know, most of the lakeshore dorms are pretty good.
    Hope this helps.

I'm from Massachusetts and (I think?) I signed up for a room in the Towers (private residence hall)... corner suite. All I've seen so far is the blueprint thingy of the room, and it looks pretty nice. I talked to a freshman at U Wis, she said that the rooms are pretty amazing. She also advised to get the deluxe package (I think that's the second best), if one has the money.

Does anyone know anything about sending in that lease form... when that's due? And if I send it in and decide not to go, do I get my money back?

Im from Maryland and im going to be living in Towers next fall. I visited in January and saw a sample room of a corner suite in Towers. It was really nice. I have some pictures of the room from when i was there that i would be happy to show you (you can IM me at steph81987). As for the deposit, you have to pay a $50 fee which holds you a place there until May 1st (im pretty sure its refundable), then after that you have to sign the lease which is binding.

Why is everyone staying at a private dorm? I'm from the east coast as well, but have been leaning towards the public dorms. Why does everyone like the private dorms so much?

I'm from MA, and everyone's been telling me to go with private housing because:

-nicer in general: bigger rooms, more stuff in the rooms (your own bathroom sometimes etc)
-a bigger variety of people. usually more wiconsin kids go to the public dorms and kids from other states go with private

on the other hand, private is more expensive... so yeah. but from what I hear well worth the extra money. especially in comparison with dorms of other colleges I've visited...

    To hell with towers!!
In the private residence halls, the Highlander is the most fun and very well located. People living on state street are always having a lot of noice and on Halloween, when the cops tear gassed everyone, it got in to the Statesider and Towers, or so I heard.

I lived at the Highlander when I stayed there. I'm transferring out of this school, but its awesome and you'll have a lot of fun for sure. Its like its own little world and its sooo good.

I am from NJ...and I am going to be in LANGDON! I visited...and loved it there. It's right on sorority/fraternity row, and like two seconds away from State Street (the main row). Towers and Statesider are right on State Street, and Towers has Urban Outfitters on the bottom level...which is pretty cool, I am not going to lie. Statesider is really nice, they have thier own bathrooms and they are super roomy. But I am still a life long fan of Landgon.
