D17 is a Chancellor scholar who is currently on the student Mosaic board. They work with Admission office to plan out Mosaic events and find hosts for kids. She told me this year Mosaic invite goes out on Valentine’s Day. So depending on where you are and the mail delivery time, you will receive it in due time.

It seems this year is later than her year~~ she received her letter of scholarship and Mosaic invite on Feb 14th, but the letter was stamped Feb 10th.

Does she have any information for those who do not qualify for MOSAIC?

"What is Mosiac? I though this was a Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship thread?"

Vandy has three main merit schollies, all of which are full tuition. Many kids apply to 2 or 3, so there's a lot of overlap among the kids who apply for these programs. If you apply to 2 or 3 you have no idea which one you might be the strongest contender for. So discussion of one merit schollie program usually bleeds over into the others.

The programs all have slightly different focuses, but all require a major amount of impressive academic and other accomplishments. Ingram is more civic/business leadership, CV more straight academics, Chancellor more diversity and community service.

Ingram finalists (not winners) usually hear first, because there's a further competition required to win. Chancellor winners hear next. Then CV winners. Then Ingram winners.

Because the Chancellor has a focus on diversity, the Chancellor winners (whether diverse themselves or not) get invited to the Mosaic program (Vandy's main minority/diversity recruitment program). My white bread suburban kid (with a major community service record) was very lucky to win a Chancellor, which then also included a Mosaic invite. So the Chancellor winners usually hear the earliest so they have enough lead time to make arrangements to attend Mosaic if they want to (along with all of the other diverse kids who are getting invited to that program).

I believe all of these schollies are awarded before the RD results are released. So the winners get an early admission along with their schollie award.

D17 seems to think CV scholars are also invited for Mosaic this year which wasn’t the case for her year. Hope she is not mistaken. D is also none_URM Chancellor scholar. Besides the scholars, Mosaic also invites URM admitted students.

@SincererLove if that’s true, does that mean that CV scholarship winners will be notified via USPS mail when they receive their invite to Mosaic?

@kolobok92 , For those who are not invited to MOSAIC and any other Chancellors scholies would hear by early March , according to previous years CC threads. I am not sure if that would be the same for this year. Looks like Vandy is making a few changes this year. Also CV scholies hear back by early March. Previously March 7th, March 10th have been the dates for CV email/letters. Last year a Chancellors schloie ( not invited to MOSAIC) letter was dated February 9th and the student was from Illinois and received it on the 14th. Hope this helps.

@northwesty , If I may know, was your child's community service record focused on one unique aspects of serving the community ( one special project) or was he/she involved in many different community service activities all through out high school. Thank you in advance.

I’m still confused. Who is invited to Mosaic? Some Chancellors but not all? All CVs 6)8/ year? Maybe not?

@homerdog - Mosaic weekend is a "multicultural student recruitment program which invites about 200 admitted students from various minority backgrounds and rural areas to visit campus during one weekend in March." Many of these will include Chancellor, Ingram, and CV scholars. (Note: there may be proportionately more Chancellor scholars than either Ingram or CV scholars invited to Mosaic, given that the mission of the Chancellor's is to promote "outstanding leadership, strength of character, academic achievement, and a deep-seated commitment to diversity and social justice," hence it likely attracts a more diverse cohort that either the Ingram, which is based more on community service, or the CV, which is strictly merit based.

Quick question: If I don't receive the scholarship at all will I be given some sort of notification? Or do I just assume I haven't gotten it if I don't get either an email or package?

I just called and asked about the date for the CV award. They said it's sent about a week before RD decisions go out. And right now, they are still saying RD decisions will be 4/1. I asked about Mosiac and CV candidates and she said that Mosaic isn't tied to any of the merit awards but sometimes kids overlap. So, it's possible that kids invited to Mosaic could be getting one of the big scholarships but also possible that they are not. The flip side is also true - not invited to Mosiac but still getting one of the big scholarships.
