Geography department?

Maps have fascinated me nearly all my life, and I'm considering majoring in geography in college with a potential goal of eventually pursuing graduate or professional work in cartography and geoinformatics. I'd ideally like to complete a Bachelor of Arts course of study at a small or relatively small school strong in geography and a few other subjects that interest me, including cognitive science, linguistics, French, Russian, Japanese, theater, creative writing, math, film, and architectural history and design.

Vassar is one of only a handful of liberal arts colleges offering a geography major and classes focused on cartography and geoinformatics. It additionally offers majors and/or a substantial number of courses in alignment with most of the other interest areas of mine I listed above. I am strongly considering applying to Vassar for these and a few other reasons.

Is anyone who uses this forum familiar with Vassar's geography department? Is it strong? I would additionally love to hear about the school's math, French, Russian, and Japanese departments, as well as any of its courses focused on linguistics and architectural history and design. I am already aware that it is quite strong in cognitive science, theater, creative writing, and film.

Not sure about Vassar, but I'm also interested in switching into geography. Human Geo, and GIS are of most interest, just a bit worried about job opportunities in the field, especially entry ones.
