If you know you won't get financial aid, do you still ask for it to qualify for merit scholarships?

If you are sure your parents make too for you to get financial aid, should you still say YES on the Common App. where it asks if you are applying for financial aid? or is this a strike against you (since they probable like full freight students)? Many colleges say I have to apply for financial aid to be considered for merit scholarships. Can I change my common app. depending on the school? Sorry, very new to this circus! Many thanks!
