***Transfer 2017***

NotAMathleteNotAMathlete 303 replies5 threadsRegistered User Member
Hey guys! I haven't seen a thread for transfers so I thought I'd start one.

I'm applying for sophomore admission. I'm majoring in poli-sci, economics and violin performance at a relatively unknown state school (SUNY Geneseo).

If someone could take a look at my essays and my resume I'd be so so grateful. Just DM me – I'd prefer not to have a ton of identifying information online.

I applied to Wellesley EE last year and was given a possible then rejected. I've heard that it's near impossible for rejected freshmen applicants to transfer in; however, I had an extremely difficult senior year which significantly decreased my competitivity for Wellesley and since have recovered in most all aspects (specifically grade-wise).

Does anyone have any insight on this? I've heard it's extremely difficult to get into Wellesley as a transfer regardless. A friend mentioned that they only accepted around 30 students; however, I'm not quite sure where she got this data.

A friend mentioned that they only accepted around 30 students; however, I'm not quite sure where she got this data.

If you look at the Common Data Set for Wellesley, section D, Transfer Admission, you can see how many applied, how many were admitted, and how many enrolled.

For Fall 2015, 196 applied, 36 were admitted, and 11 enrolled.

Wellesley's Common Data Set can be found on their website:

Are you applying only to Wellesley or do you have other schools on your list?

I've applied or am in the process of applying to a few schools - not many - but a few.

Ok, cool. I ask because I transferred to Wellesley after my freshman year in 2010 and had some suggestions for other schools that might be of interest to you. I don't really have much advice about getting into Wellesley as a transfer, because I'm still not exactly sure what got me in. I would just say that, if it's what you want, go for it and hope for the best.

Some other schools to consider in addition to Wellesley:
    *Mount Holyoke
    *Smith
    *Bryn Mawr
    *Kalamazoo College
    *Grinnell

You should also check out the book Colleges That Change Lives. It has profiles of a bunch of amazing, less well-known schools.

I am reapplying as a transfer for sophomore admission too! I got a possible and then was waitlisted. I have improved my gpa significantly so I hope I will be admitted this time. I can't stop thinking about wellesley at my current university and only applied as a transfer to Wellesley. My biggest regret was not applying ED to wellesley. I really hope to get in!! But am a bit worried about making friends as a transfer.

I applied for junior transfer. This is my first time to apply Wellesley. I've studied in girls' schools for 14 years, so I don't know if it's a good choice to go to Wellesley. I like it though.

I applied for junior transfer, and I don't mean to hijack threads but:

I go to a small liberal arts college in western massachusetts
I dropped out of high school to attend college 2 years early
My GPA is 3.68 (would have been higher but spring of last year I got a concussion and had brain damage/needed to take time off from school)
    SAT 2170 (730M, 740CR, 670 W)
    ACT 35

I'm vice president of the Model UN and international affairs society
Helped start and am an editor of the student newspaper
    Started my college's track team
I was vice president of my colleges' chapter of AIESEC, an international nonprofit which connects students with internships abroad
I play soccer for my school
I mentored my high school's robotics team last year
I also work a job on campus

My sister is currently a sophomore at wellesley, my aunt and cousin both went there and my cousin wrote me an alumna letter of support

I'm sure just because not many people are commenting does not mean not many people are applying! It seems like they get a relatively stable number of transfers every year (from their common data set). If anything, they may have more transfers applications, because they got so many freshman applications this year. Either way, we only have to wait another few hours to see!

I'm surprised they haven't posted yet, considering their Admissions Office closes at 4:30 and it is past that time (in the East Coast). Are you sure they'll be released today?
