Summer Waitlist

I was recently sent an email about whether or not I wished to remain on the waitlist. Although the waitlist has closed, they have offered some interested applicants to stay on a shortened list in the case that a spot opens up. Did anyone else get this? Also, what are the chances that I will be accepted after being placed on this waitlist?

What is the summer waitlist? I've never heard of it. Is there any downside to remaining on the waitlist?

Some schools keep a very small waitlist in the summer in case they get more “summer melt” than they.expect (students who decide over the summer not to attend after all). If you can deal with the uncertainty over the summer, go ahead and stay on the list. If you have warmed more to the school you’ve deposited at and would rather just move forward with them, decline it.
