Hello! I am a high school senior who's considering applying to the following schools:
Yale (lol)

- 3.79 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Top decile (our school doesn't do rankings beyond decile)
- National Merit Scholar (not semi-finalist)

Here's a sample of the most rigorous courses I've taken/am taking:
Honors French, 2 through 4
Honors Physics
Honors Chemistry
AP US History (5 on AP exam)
AP Language and Comp. (5 on AP exam)
AP European History
AP Literature and Comp.
AP Statistics
AP Calculus AB

SAT: 2230
750 Reading
700 Math
780 Writing

SAT Subject Tests:
760 US History
720 Literature
640 Math I (only sending to non-score choice institutions)

Aforementioned 5s on AP Lang. and US History tests.

Work Experience:
Dishwasher at the same restaurant since I was of working age.

- Have played the vioin for 9 years, member of Honors Orchestra in my district.
- Have attended a local 2 week long filmmaking workshop every summer for 7 years.
- Theater: Playing a supporting speaking role in my school's production of the Crucible this year.
- Longtime member of Ski Club (since elementary school)
- Volunteer for Ron Paul 2012 presidential campaign, participated in phone banking (no political squabbling please).

Thanks in advance! :)

Your GPA is a little low for Vandy, Duke, and UChicago, but high enough to keep you competitive. Your SAT is fairly solid for these schools, maybe a little low even for Vandy and U Chicago, but w/ your extracurriculars and hard rigor, u've got a very good shot at all of them

UChicago and Vandy are nearly opposites of each other. What attracts you to both?

I agree with luminalcoin8. While it's good to have a variety of colleges on your list, try to make sure you'd be a good fit for each if you were to get in. From my understanding, Chicago is more similar to Columbia, NYU, and Brown than it is to Vanderbilt, Duke, and Dartmouth. Look into the social/party scenes at each group; think about which you'd enjoy more.

    @luminalcoin8 and RM1212:
I know this list about as eclectic as it gets. I was drawn to U of C mostly for the economics department, as that's what I plan on majoring in. I've already applied there EA, but more recently I've learned about the more vibrant social life at school's like Duke and Vandy which piqued my interest. I also visited Dartmouth for a second time and it really shed light on the differences between that institution and more "bookish" schools like U of C. Long story short, I'm not as interested in Chicago as I previously was, but since they're reviewing me anyway I figured I'd ask.
