UC GPA:
Unweighted: 3.86
Weighted GPA: 4.43
When factoring in freshmen grades:
W:4.35
UW:3.59
Indian Male

SAT: 790 Math, 750 R&W(1540)
SAT II Scores
Physics:800
Math Level 2: 800
Took 12 APS, 5's in Calc AB, Calc BC, Physics C. Overall half half split between 5's and 4's

Intended Major of Mechanical Engineering
Huge role on robotics team, took on a lot of projects and had a big role in mechanical design(related to major) also strategy lead. Used design tools related to my major like CAD

Almost Eagle Scout(finished my eagle scout service project, which i put >100 hours into.
Overall 200 hours of service through Boy Scouts

Internship at local engineering company over summer, designed some parts for them with CAD(400 hours)

Worked at a hot dog stand throughout HS, around 100 hours total

Plan on doing a senior project where I design and construct an assistive device to allow people who use wheelchairs to get over curbs without ramps.
Show strong commitment to major in my essays

What were your math and science grades from high school?

As a potential engineering student, a few B's in English or Spanish or literature classes will matter a lot less compared to a few B's in math classes.

Are you in-state at any of the public schools on your list? Are you okay with being full pay at any of these schools, including out of state costs at your out of state public schools?

Regardless of your answers, I do not see any safety on this list.

^^ OP does acknowledge this in his screen name

OP, it looks like the UC GPA calculation that does not include 9th grade is advantageous for you, although as Gumbymom says, you need to compute your *capped* weighted GPA for UC's.

Have you applied to more UC's/CSU's beyond UCB/UCLA? You have a chance at those two, certainly, but it's not a sure thing, especially in engineering.

I'm not sure how much insight anyone here can give you beyond what you already know. You have some chance at all of these schools, but they're all reaches that reject more qualified applicants than they accept. It's simply a Schrodinger's Cat scenario until you get the decisions.

I'd be curious to see your curb-assist project. As a PT with 30 years of experience with wheeled mobility and assistive tech, I'd be happy to give input/feedback if you'd like to PM me. If disability solutions are of particular interest to you, note that Cal Poly SLO engineering does a lot of engineering design projects with PWD. Rice does a lot of this as well - have you checked out their MechE "Design Kitchen"...? I'm surprised Rice isn't on your "no Ivies/no safeties" list - it seems to fit the trend of schools that interest you.

    I am in-state for California.
I don't have any safeties as I got into U minnesota. These aren't all the colleges I'm applying to,

As for my grades, I had a B in Bio and Math in freshmen year. In 10th and 11th, I had all A's except for a B in Chem. I took honors physics, Calc AB, Physics C, Calc BC as "engineering" courses

I will keep you updated on my project, and would love feedback!
I have also applied to UC Irvine, UCSB, UC Davis, Cal Poly SLO.

I plan on applying to Rice, Duke, Cornell(I know it contradicts my username), and UT Austin.
    Thanks for any help!!!
