Chances for getting into UF?

Okay, so yes, it's another one of those "what do you think my chances are..." questions. I won't know until February 15, so I know there's nothing else to do but wait. No need to worry and such... I can't help but wonder though...

My dream school is the University of Florida. I'm an out-of-stater, so I guess that might be a strike against me? I dunno really...

- I have a 4.1 GPA, I'm the valedictorian from a class of 370 (lucky me, I know...), and I have decent outside activities.

- I am a weak test taker! :/1900 on the SAT. 630 CR, 600 M. 670 on writing, but... I don't believe UF looks at that...

- I'm an IB student... I know UF is a top IB student recruiting school... I am going for the full diploma and have already taken one test last year and scored a 6 out of 7...

- I've been in the top choir since...forever. I've made All-Region Choir every year of high school... I also am apart of a small after school choir group and we go around and perform around the city. It's pretty neat. :)

- I have over 200 volunteer hours from the local hospital, and 100 from the public library. As far as total volunteer hours go, I have around 500...

- Umm, I'm in NHS...secretary of NHS...

- I was nominated and selected for M.A.S.H. (Medical Applications for Science and Health, a neat summer program), Governor's School, and Girls State.

- Decent essay, I wouldn't say amazing, but I don't believe it would be a turn-off.

- Holding a job since this past summer...

I think that covers the major points...

I got accepted at Florida State already... What do you think about UF though? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I think you have a pretty good shot, but then I have a skewed view of UF admissions since basically everyone from my high school gets in there, if they apply.

Thanks azeri. I'm assuming you're from FL? It's listed under "most selective" at most sites, but...I really don't know. *shrug*

You're in. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind.

    I think you're probably in

Thank you, Rosh and bigz. I sure hope you guys are right. I visited the campus last summer and I absolutely loved it. Going to UF would be great. :)

You're in, easily. SAT scores are weak, but other things make up for it. I'd consider being out of state a plus, since they want you for diversity.

Thanks lovehex. :) I'm from lame old Arkansas. Blah. And I'm Indian. Hopefully, that works on my side. Although I think they might already have plenty of Indian people. :P

Best thing going for you: IB
Worst thing: Out of state (only 6% accepted)

beefs...that's an interesting name. :P Thanks! I thought I was going to get all or mostly negative results with this post, but it's been quite the opposite. February 15 is gonna be too long. Ahh. 43 more days left. :P

And J'adoube, I hope you're right about IB... I'm hoping it'll overshadow the out-of-state issue. Uggh. Florida is really big on IB from what I know...

    Anyone else? :P

Florida is so tough to get into. I know a girl who was an IB student, and had a 4.1 gpa and didnt get accepted. She was in-state too. So idk...but good luck.

Yikes. This is what I'm fearful of. :( I want in so badly and I know I'm a very capable all-rounded student who works hard and stays determined. But translating that onto paper and sticking out at admissions in the time that they give my app is something that I'm not sure about. I just hope they give me a chance. Anyone other thoughts?
