It's refreshing to speak to other SCEA hopefuls! I'm currently in Peru on a volunteer and traveling program.

Blah, this is already stressing me out. I've already finished my Common App essay - it's 540 words. I've been doing research and volunteering at piano conventions and attending college to take Calc and Music Theory ^_^ Pretty fun, I gotta say.

I can't visit Yale :/, but I'm probably gonna apply SCEA to see what happens.

Yale is my dream school. It's so perfect, but I'm debating whether or not to go SCEA because if I don't get in it'll be a cold winter day without the cushion of other acceptances and RD would be completely different. But anyway, I was working for the first two months and soon I'm gonna start an internship forty hours a week at this non profit organization for art in my city.

    I'm applying SCEA this fall!

This summer I'm doing tons of physician shadowing and working on my Extended Essay (an IB thing).

Hi, you guys! Finally a class of 2017 thread! I hope to know better most of you during these months, I think it will be fun and comforting for most of us :)
Yale is my dream school, but I'm an international so I think I can't really have SAT subjects ready for November :( Otherwise I guess I should take the ACT alone, but it seems a bad idea since most of the applicants will have them (and they will have outstanding scores) I don't know what to do!
  • earthdancer7earthdancer7 Registered User Posts: 49 Junior Member
If you take the ACT and get an excellent score, and if you also have strong grades in various subjects, the subject tests might be superfluous unless required for other colleges. Other schools that I'm applying to require SAT Subject tests, so I'm taking them anyways.

How has everyone who has visited liked the campus?
  • earthdancer7earthdancer7 Registered User Posts: 49 Junior Member
I liked it a lot. The diversity of the buildings is excellent, and they tend to be gorgeous as well. Also, it felt like the campus was a beautiful, miniature city-within-a-city, which added to the appeal. Basically, I have a huge crush on Yale.

@earthdancer7 I'm going to take the SAT subjects anyway because I have colleges that require them, too; I was just thinking about SCEA at Yale... I mean, it would be AWESOME to have a response in December! I would take SAT subjects in Latin (in my school in Italy we have to do 5 hours of it weekly .__. so I think I can take a very high score) and maybe I can take the advantage of SAT Italian since, well, I could score an 800, but I don't know if it is fair. My grades are good, but my junior year was definitely not outstanding because of some health issues and, in fact, I'm really really worried about admissions (I'm not saying that they are so bad, but not so high as well). So, I thought to wait RD to have better grades in my senior year, but Yale website says that they don't require transcripts from international students and I have also to consider that it costs a lot to translate them. Argh, I'm so confused. The fact is that I want to be admitted so badly! :)
Where else you are going to apply ?
  • Avalde4Avalde4 Registered User Posts: 190 Junior Member
I know exactly what you mean! I want to be admitted so badly too, but I'm really scared about Yale's "send all scores" policy because I got a 590 on the SAT ll and aside from wanting to be an English major, I'll graduate highschool with 11 English credits because of different creative writing credits required at my magnet program. Sure, I'll retake it, but I'm scared of how bad it looks and Yale is my dream school. :( But to answer the where else we're applying question, Brown and UChicago are definitely on my list so far. Being a bulldog is the dream though.
