My child has an opportunity to interview with a student at Yale. It is not easy for us to get there. Does thisi mprove the chances for admittance?

If you live in a city with a lot of alumni, chances are you will be scheduled for an alumni interview. Since interviews are not mandatory, if it is difficult for you to get to New Haven, I would just pass. Are you in a major metropolitan area?

Why don't you ask if the student could do a Skype interview?

I believe the students that interview do them all face to face. Unless you want to see the campus, there is no reason to trouble yourself with an on campus for interview. It is likely you will be offered a local alumni interview although these can be done by Skype or FaceTime.
